I also would like to personally thank Richard Carr and all the players who played for the Hellenic League Representative side against Milton United, it was a good finale to the season."
"Away from the football side it was nice to see other club members there supporting the club. Here's to the next 100 hundred years."
Following on from the centenary celebrations of the afternoon, the day continued with the Season presentations. The highlight of of the evening was a DVD produced by some of the players about the rest of their team mates ,this was an hilarious end to the season for the 'Miltonians'.
The actual awards on the night went to:
Players Player - Liam Thorne
Supporters Player - Ben Taylor
Managers Player of The Year - Liam Thorne
Golden Boot - Ryan Williams
Club Person of The Year - Craig Selby
Treasurers Shield - Sharon Palmer
What the Milton chairman hasn't included in his text - In the Milton Vets versus Milton Under 16's, Ron Renton, took his turn in goal, to show age has no limits. When called upon to make his first save, Renton made a "feline-like?" lunge to deny the scoring chance, hitting the floor decisively.
No doubt that save will allways be a part of his footballing memories. As will the valued actions of the emergency services on site, who carried off the "Milton Cat". With a, reported, broken bone!.
We all wish Ron a speedy recovery.

The manager added. "It would be wrong to single out any individual, but I was particulary pleased for Warren McCabe (pictured) getting his two goals. Now we must regroup and concentrate for another hard match at Henley on Tuesday night."
Despite the massive movement of players through the Milton side in recent seasons, dual goal scorer McCabe has stuck with the club from Under 12 boys level and is probably the longer serving player at The Heights. Still only aged 20 he has many more years of football to offer.

Miracles do happen - Even in Vet's Football!!!! - 11th June
Milton Veterans medals were the first to be presented at the FTL Futbol Hellenic League Presentation Evening which was held at the Oxford Centre on Friday 5 June.
Sharon Palmer and the wonderful Buffalo were present to collect them. The team had come runners up in the Veterans League Division 1. In only their second season, Milton United Vets won 5 of their 8 league games scoring an excellent 20 goals, which was a great improvement from the previous season when we couldn’t score for toffee. To be honest I agree with Howard Wilkinson when he said 'If they hadn't scored, we would've won'
Team manager, Paul McIntosh (pictured left) said "I told the players at the beginning of the season we had a chance to make history if we all lay off the beer, fags, women, late nights, bingo, gambling, stay out of lap dancing clubs and all other the 1980’s footballing clichés. And as the great Terry Venables said if you can't stand the heat in the dressing- room, get out of the kitchen."
"Well now it’s time to look forward to the new season. A couple of players are now old enough to pick up their bus passes, which will probably be the only passes they receive from Robbo as most of his go out for throw in’s! "
McIntosh also said, on a serious note for a change "I would like to say a huge thank you to a few special people. Buff for looking after us at home games on a Wednesday evening (except the one we didn’t turn up to!), those sausages and chips are divine and Marina for managing the bar so well. For Sharon Palmer for making sure I had all the latest fixture info and for keeping me in line." "The biggest thank you is to all the VETS players for making the season so much fun and so enjoyable...let’s hope we have a cracker next year...it’s been emotional". |
