Prestwood Make Three Resignations - 25th November
At an emergency meeting of Managers and senior players held on Tuesday evening it was decided unanimously that Prestwood FC can no longer compete in the Hellenic League. This communication is the clubs formal resignation from the league to take effect immediately.
The club has neither the finance, nor the players, to continue at this level of football. Last Saturday our team included seven players shipped in from West London to fulfil the fixture. Last Saturday the official’s fees were only paid by the addition of money from club officials as we have insufficient funds to pay for officials next Saturday and it is therefore impossible to continue. Our first team manager and groundsman, Steve Simmons, fractured his Achilles tendon a couple of months ago running the line for a Berks & Bucks cup game and will be on crutches for at least another month. This misfortune has added to our problems maintaining the ground.
Since the District Council demolished the old club house and replaced it with the current building the lack of any hospitality facilities on our ground has been a considerable handicap in maintaining a club spirit, which makes retaining players even more difficult. The new Sports Centre also removed the facility we had for running fund raising events and for the last few years we have been on a downward spiral. The club is 75 years old this year and I have been with the club for 60 of those years so this is a very sad day for me and others within the club. We were founder members of the Wycombe Senior League, The Chiltonian League and were involved in the amalgamation of Chiltonian and Hellenic Leagues to form Division One (East) so this decision has not been taken lightly. The junior football club in the village is strong but unfortunately not a part of this club and as Prestwood Colts FC has over three hundred youngsters signed on so perhaps something will rise from the ashes. Let us hope so.
Yours sincerely and with great sadness,
Chairman and Secretary
Reserves Also Lose A Club - 11th August
Prior to the news that Hardwicke were pulling out, Prestwood FC had already been in contact with the League Office indicating they would be withdrawing their Reserve team from Reserve Two East.
It was stated that the club had been unable to secure the registration of players who would travel to the other member clubs in that Division but would be happy to play in the local Wycombe League. Life goes on!
