Carterton Stalwart Passed Away - 2nd May
Mr Don Richens, a Carterton FC stalwart for many years, passed away on Friday 29th April after losing his battle with cancer.
During his involvement with Carterton, his commitment had been second to none. He worked tirelessly to ensure the pitch at Kilkenny Lane was one of the best surfaces to play on in the Hellenic League. He put in many long hours working at the Club, both on and off the field, and is well known for sitting in his hut on match days collecting entry money and handing out programmes. He has not only worked tirelessly maintaining Kilkenny Lane, he has often been seen travelling with his blue tractor en route to maintain other sporting venues. This additional work Don undertook brought much needed additional revenue into the club. His efforts and commitments to the Club have been exceptional and he was definitely one of a small number who would readily and without hesitation give up his time for something he loved for no monetary reward.
Not only will he be sadly missed by his family, he will be sadly missed by his second family, the Football Club, Don was a loveable character who will be irreplaceable.
