Flackwell Heath 0 - 0 Newbury FC (Newbury won 4 - 2 on Pen's AET) - 21st May

Uhlsport Division One East side Newbury beat the Premier Division's Flackwell Heath as the two Hellenic League clubs met in the final of the Reading Senior Challenge Cup at Madejski Stadium on Wednesday. The tie remained goalless in 90 minutes and again in extra time before Newbury won 4-2 on penalties.

It was the second successive season Flackwell have been the losing finalists. They were also recently beaten on penalties in the Berks and Bucks Senior Trophy by Newport Pagnell.
The lack of goals in Reading was largely due to some outstanding goalkeeping at both ends. Andrew Bayliss was certainly Newbury's man of the match, while Sam Southerden had a fine game for the Heathens. Bayliss was beaten by Nathan Poulton's header early in the game, but the post came to his rescue. Mark Weedon also went close for Flackwell, while, at the other end, Jamie Green was denied by Southerden. Heathens had the better of the game and Danny Jordan struck the woodwork early in the 2nd half. Soon after, Ben Sturgess squandered a golden opportunity. Newbury lacked a cutting edge, but Harry Goodger did have one opportunity, only to be denied by Southerden. Both sides made substitutions as legs tired.

In the penalty shoot-out, it went 2-2 before Heathens player-manager James Pritchard, who had brought himself on late in extra time, saw his effort pushed aside by Bayliss. Callum Willmoth put Newbury 3-2 up before Bayliss denied Adam Paget, leaving Carl Garstang to win the match and spark off the celebrations for the West Berkshire club.
