PENN & TYLERS GREEN F C NEWS

Sepede New Man At Penn - 22nd May

hellenic league john seped manager penn & tylers greenJohn Sepede (pictured) is the new first team Manager at Penn & Tylers Green F.C. succeeding the departing Matt Miller.

Chairman Tony Hirst commented: “This will be a popular appointment at P&TGFC, as John is well known locally and has a good knowledge of the Hellenic league and the local football community in general. He has past links to the club and has been coaching at Flackwell Heath for the last couple of years, a club he also played for. We are confident that John and his team can carry on the legacy inherited from Matt and enhance the squad and move the club forward even more next season. To that aim we hope that all of last season’s squad sign up again to what we hope and believe could be our most successful season for many years .”

John will be meeting all the players and fellow coaches in the coming weeks when the  training schedules will be announced and in the meantime please view our website at penntylersgreenfc.co.uk, for updated details on all P&TFC football matters.

Saddened By Miller's Departure - 4th May

hellenic league tony hurst chairman penn & tylers greenPenn & Tylers Green chairman Tony Hurst expressed sadness and disappointment at Matt Miller's recent resignation as Penn's first team manager.

Hurst, pictured, commented: "I would, on behalf of the whole club, like to thank Matt and his assistants for moving the club forward this season and we wish him all the best in his new post at Flackwell Heath and beyond, and being a "Penn boy" at heart, I know, from our meetings on the subject, it was a hard decision for him to make. We hope it proves to be the right one for him. Matt has galvanised an excellent group of players this season and we are progressing well as a unit and there has been improvement throughout the club this season because of Matt's influence. We also very much hope that all this seasons players will stay, along with any new players who are most welcome, and help continue this progression and take the club forward. We rely on great team spirit and loyalty at this club. We are also very proud of our record of developing young players through our junior teams, many of whom have progressed to higher levels of football than the Hellenic League. Although we have no such thing as "player budgets" and "sugar daddies" to support us, we are a very professionally run club at all levels, including operating within prudent financial budgets, and we also cherish our Community Charter Standard Status."

Penn have begun their search for the position of First Team Manager, and applicants can apply to the Chairman in the first instance on: 01494 815839.

Heathens Visit PTG - 22nd July

One East Penn Tylers Green will face a stern test against Buckinghamshire rivals Premier Division Flackwell Heath this Saturday.

Pre-Season training is moving along nicely at PTGFC. Over 50 players are turning up at every training session and the first team now have three games under their belt, losing out to Slough Town and Beaconsfield SYCOB, and beating Wraysbury. Many players have been used so far as Manager Matt Miller and his coaching team strive to find the starting line up for the first league game at home to Woodley Town on August 14th 3pm Kick Off.

Penn Tylers Green first team regular Chris Hurst completed the recent Penn Fun Run, a distance of approximately 3.5 miles and came second out of a field of 712 in a time of approximately 20 minutes, on a very hot afternoon in sunny Penn.

A marvellous achievement and testimony to his self imposed dedicated fitness regime of the last few months, and so we are expecting him to carry on the good work and return  to pre-season training in tip top condition, although a weeks break in Turkey, on a "cultural mission" may hinder his progress in that area.  This is the second time Chris has taken the runners-up spot in this event.

Life Membership For Laing - 25th June

During PTGFC’s AGM held on Monday 21st June, Penn Reserve Team Manager, Steve Laing, was awarded a prestigious life membership of the club.

hellenic league tony hurst steve laing penn tylers greenChairman Tony Hurst commented: “I have the honour, on behalf of the football club and committee, to bestow the highest honour the club can award. We do not award these very often, I cannot remember the last one given but it is some years ago now. This is the award of a Life Membership of the Football Club. This person has been involved at this club from a Youth team player way back, I cannot even attempt to remember the year, progressing through to first team football, then, like so many of our previous players have done, he moved to player higher football, at amongst others Burnham, Flackwell Heath & Beaconsfield , before returning to PTGFC  in the late eighties where he played his part in winning the Wycombe Senior Cup amongst other trophies.

He’s a bloke players can relate to, a no nonsense, but at the same time understandable approach to coaching and giving out instructions , No rants & raves ,well actually I’ll revise that , maybe a few, and sometimes in “expressive language and terms” but hey ,all  players need that approach sometimes . “PC” or any other two or three letter abbreviations have not tainted his world, nor has the other PC (ie: personal computer) as Andreas will testify to as his messages have to be received  either by phone or someone else’s e-mail.(Usually Carol’s).

Since returning to the club all those years ago, he has managed the A team, The Reserves, then the A team again and is now the Reserve team Manager. There have been league honours and cup wins along the way, and he has also carried out the vital task of nurturing and bringing on players within his teams for 1st team football and maybe beyond. In the dressing room he commands respect. Most players under his wing will say that when Steve speaks before games ,they listen (and they learn)  This has been achieved without expensive FA Courses & certificates but by tapping into a lifetime of gathering football knowledge and experiences accumulated from his many years of playing and watching the game at various levels. This club and numerous players have certainly benefited from the passing on of that knowledge over the years.

We don’t give out Gold Watches or flower vases or suchlike, but instead, we give, very rarely Life Memberships for Services to PTGFC.

This is a personal pleasure for me also, as I have played with Steve (pictured right with Hurst) in a number of teams over the years and I can just about recall Steve flying down the wing and delivering that telling cross or scoring himself. One such goal was against Holmer Green out there after about 20seconds. Now that is a priceless memory against the old enemy!!

Finally, as you all know, this is a family club and so it is fitting that Steve, or "Laingy" as he is known, is now the third member of his family to receive this honour, along with Stan, his late father, and Dottie his Mum. So this really is a great honour and privilege for me to complete the family hat-trick and present Steve with his Life Membership.”

hellenic league matt miller penn & tylers greenMatt Miller (left) has been appointed as first team manager and Richard Camden as First Team Coach of Penn & Tylers Green.

Chairman Tony Hurst stated: "Matt will bring a fresh impetus to the Club.  We are looking to the long term with this appointment and to move the club forward".

Matt has had a successful playing career with Hampton & Richmond Borough, Fleet Town, Yeading, Slough Town, Burnham, Chesham and Wealdstone. He also had a spell as Assistant Manager with Thame United. Matt will be assisted by Steve Laing, who continues his long relationship with Penn & Tylers Green, where he will stay on as the manager of the Reserve Team.

Steve has been involved as a player with Penn & Tylers Green, Burnham, Flackwell Heath, Watford, Tottenham, Dunstable, Slough Town, Beaconsfield and Hazlemere. All managers and coaches have good knowledge of local football.

Matt Miller is pleased to be appointed and stated: "I am looking forward to this challenge and my team cannot wait to get started and are excited about what season 2010/2011 holds."

Penn & Tylers Green held their annual awards evening recently at Hazlemere Golf Club and before a hearty meal and then dancing the night away the following awards were made:
1st Team: Manager’s Player of the Year: Andy Savage
Players’ Player of the Year: Gary Crick
Reserves: Manager’s Player of the Year: Tim Collins
Players’ Player of the Year: Michael Benning
A -Team: Managers Player of the Year: Andrew Harding
Players Player of the Year: Wayne Marshall
Senior Section’s Young Player of the Year: Kieran Latta
The Stan Laing Clubman of the Year: Andreas Latta

Chairman Tony Hurst commented afterwards:"This was a fantastic evening attended by over 80 people. Everyone had a great time and I even got to see my wife for the first time this season! I must pay tribute to everyone involved at the club during this difficult season, the incredible dedication of the committee, the heart warming loyalty of the non paid players, and not forgetting the junior player who is the ball boy and cleans the dressing rooms each week. This is the reason we can continue to put out three senior teams every week of the season."

"Moving forward we can look forward hopefully to a resurgence of the club next season with the new managerial team, which will be announced shortly, and they will be moving into a solid infrastructure and have good resource at their disposal, including a good base of young players coming through our very strong junior sections, to progress the club forward in the coming years. I would also like to thank, on behalf of everyone at the club, outgoing managers Jon Farthing and Mick Doyle for all of their dedication and hard work they have done for the club over the last two years and special thanks for the help and assistance they provided in the amicable process of appointing the new managerial team."
