Bitter Disappointment For Granger - 22nd April

Manager Barry Granger reported himself bitterly disappointed with his team's display in the 1-0 home defeat against Trowbridge Town.

"After an excellent run we gave an inept performance against a hard working opposition, which is disappointing as our most inconsistent form has been at home this season. Injuries and player availability have caught up with us but that did not excuse the way we lacked footballing conviction. I really want to finish on a high but I know the trip to Clanfield will be difficult with Justin Bishop still injured and Tom Blyth not available, I am just hoping Nathan's partner gives birth prior to or after the game to allow us to put some semblance of a team out. Monday's home fixture should see us have a near full squad to complete our League Programme." commented Barry.

Squad: Tom Sheppard, Rob Cave, Jon Peacock, Adam Keslake, Phil Williams, Ross Irwin, Marc Hughes, Mark Viner, Nathan Irwin, Tom Firth, Jon Tyrrell Will Howard, Tim Whittaker

Striker Hoodoo - 20th April

After seven consecutive away games The Rocks look forward to tonights home fixture with Trowbridge Town, although Rocks expect to field a make shift forward line.

Last week`s optimism has quickly vanished on the injury front with Rob Sage being hospitalised prior to last Saturday's game with torn ankle ligaments after he fell from a trestle at work at 9am. To compound matter's Justin Bishop suffered a recurrence of his knee injury and had to leave the field of play after 70 minutes, he will miss the home game against Trowbridge and is rated extremely doubtful for the tough away trip to Clanfield at the weekend.

n addition John Tyrell who has performed well since coming into the team with 4 goals in 7 games misses the Trowbridge game as he is away working in Devon all week.

However, Ross Irwin ad Mark Viner return to the squad after holiday at the weekend. "We will do as we have done all season and get on with it; we are on a great run, and as ever the injuries are frustrating for all concerned, but we will still field a capable Team on the back of an excellent victory at Letcombe. We will and look to secure another win Wednesday evening and keep the momentum going" commented Manager Barry Granger.

Squad: Tom Sheppard, Rob Cave, Phil Williams, Jon Peacock, Adam Keslake, Ross Irwin, Tom Blyth, Mark Viner, Marc Hughes, Nathan Irwin, Tim Whittaker, Will Howard, Tom Firth, James Mooney

Good News At Last - 14th April

Following an extended run of misfortune, good news can now be reported by Tytherington Rocks.

Marcus Taylor's operartion went successfully this week and his rehab starts next week in an effort to get back to full fitness as soon as possible. This follows the news that striker Rob Sage has made himself available for the last four games of the season having been absent since January following the birth of his first child.

Striker Justin Bishop and keeper Tom Sheppard have also made themselves available for this weekend's trip to Letcombe after recovery from injury.

Unfortunately Mark Viner and Ross Irwin miss the game due to prior commitments, but Tom Firth returns after missing the Trowbridge trip due to work.

"Letcombe is always a difficult place to visit, as their home draw against Clanfield illustrated last week. However, despite a crippling injury list the lads have worked their socks off for Stadds and me since Christmas and we have only lost 2 in 12. We have drawn too many games but our play has not been rewarded as was clearly the case at Trowbridge on Tuesday, where football proved what a cruel game it can be, with a late goal denying us a much deserved victory. We will field a good Team Saturday, and very much be looking to continue our good form," commented Manager Barry Granger.

Squad: Tom Sheppard, Rob Cave, Jon Peacock, Adam Keslake, Phil Williams, Nathan Irwin, Marc Hughes, Tom Firth, Russell Driver, Justin Bishop, Rob Sage, John Tyrrell, Tom Perry.

hellenic league justin bishop tytherington rocksList Grows - 11th April

With games coming thick and fast striker Justin Bishop is the latest player to be added to Rocks long injury list.

"Bish" was forced to leave the field of play after jarring his knee 15 minutes from the end of Saturday's match at Purton. He will definitely miss the trip to Trowbridge tomorrow night, and is currently waiting on a physio report this afternoon as to this coming Saturday.

The team gained a well deserved point on Saturday against a good Purton side; controlling the game and going in 1-0 up at the break through a John Tyrrell goal. The score line should have been better as the Club website shows clearly that Justin Bishop had a perfectly good goal disallowed. That said the hosts improved after the break and after drawing level on 60 minutes dominated the game with goal line clearances by skipper Adam Keslake keeping the scores level.

"Overall I was pleased with the point on Saturday as we lost our way towards the end of the game, but showed character to defend well. Our good run since January 1st continues deservedly, but the coming weeks will bring testing times as player availability and injury will stretch us. It is really disappointing news about Justin as I have been so impressed with his play and attitude since he joined us. However, we will still go with a good team and positive attitude to Trowbridge tomorrow night and endeavour to gain further points," commented Manager Barry Granger.

Squad Ben Rose, Ross Irwin, Adam Keslake, Jon Peacock, Phil Williams, Tom Firth, Tom Blyth, Marc Hughes, Mark Viner, Nathan Irwin, John Tyrrell, Tom Perry, Paul Staddon

hellenic league marcus taylor tytherington rocksWait Over - 9th April

After a six month wait, striker Marcus Taylor will go into hospital on Tuesday for an operation on his cruciate ligament and chipped bone, injured in the home game against Purton in November.

Marcus has had to be patient given the delay, and has had to put up with restrictive movement in his job as a Physical Trainer, whilst having to miss his football for the season. "If all goes well with the op, a rehabilitation process will start that could take six months for Marcus to return to match fitness, whatever the timescale all at the Rocks wish the lad well and can't wait to see his talent back in the amber and black", commented Manager Barry Granger.

Sheppard Hamstrung - 8th April

hellenic league tom sheppard tytherington rocksKeeper Tom Sheppard is likely to miss a minimum of two weeks football following a pulled hamstring sustained at Bicester last weekend.

Manager Barry Granger has liaised with ex keeper Ben Rose this week and is confident that he will deputise for the Rocks remaining fixtures. Tom Blyth has also confirmed himself unavailable this week due to work commitments, however, Tom Firth returns following a Wedding function.

"This is such a shame as Shepps has been in outstanding form of late, but in Ben we know we have a keeper of Hellenic League standard, and I am really appreciative for Ben making himself available during a hectic work schedule. We will miss Tom Blyth this weekend, but Tom Firth performed well at Launton and Hook so is a good deputy. Overall it is just a continuance of the frustrations of fielding a regular team that has blighted us this season, but I am confident we will give Purton a good game," commented Barry.

Squad - Ben Rose, Rob Cave, Jon Peacock, Adam Keslake, Phil Williams, Ross Irwin, Marc Hughes, Mark Viner, Tom Firth, Nathan Irwin, John Tyrrell, Justin Bishop, Tom Perry

Rocks On Road - 1st April

The Rocks are on the road again this weekend, Tytherington's third successive trip to Oxfordshire.

The opponents will be Bicester Town who are the form team of the league in the last nine games, with eight wins and one defeat. On the player front defender Rob Cave returns to the squad having recovered from a back injury, but midfielder Tom Firth misses out due to a wedding.

"We are on a good run ourselves considering injuries and departures, with just one defeat this year. We pushed Bicester well in our home fixture, conceding two late goals to go down 3-2, but in fairness they have improved since then, but so have we. We will go with a game plan and a commitment to get the ball down and play in an effort to continue our run," commented Manager Barry Granger.

Tytherington Rocks held a successful Race Event on Sunday afternoon to raise money for midfielder Mark Totterdell who broke his leg recently at Lydney Town.

Thanks to those who supported the event a sum of £500 was raised for Tottsy who has asked that his thanks are passed on to Club members.

Waiting On Fitness - 24th March

Rocks manager Barry Granger is waiting for a fitness report on defender Rob Cave who is undergoing physio this week for a back strain prior to this weekend's trip to Hook Norton.

Jon Peacock will return to the squad after dental surgery forced his omission last Saturday, whilst Justin Bishop and Marc Hughes return from a Butlin's weekend. Influential midfielder Tom Blyth misses the game due to a wedding. Last weeks full debutants, Perry, Tyrrell and Firth will again travel in the Squad

"Hook Norton are an improved team as their form illustrates since Christmas, holding leaders Headington to a draw last weekend. They have made several good signings and will present a stern test this Saturday, but with only one league defeat in eight we go there in good form, so I am confident we can compete," said Barry.

Squad Tom Sheppard, Rob Cave, Jon Peacock, Adam Keslake, Phil Williams, Ross Irwin, Marc Hughes, Mark Viner, N Irwin, J Bishop, J Tyrrell, T Perry, T Firth, R Driver

Granger Reflects On Victory At Sports - 22nd March

hellenic league barry garanger tytherington rocksA hard fought win at Launton Sports on Saturday saw that justice was done in this replayed fixture.

Manager Barry Granger was forced to reshuffle his starting line up with the late withdrawals of John Peacock and Rob Sage, whilst Marc Hughes and Justin Bishop missed the game due to a prior appointment. This led to full debuts for Tom Perry, defence, Tom Firth, midfield, and John Tyrrell, striker, who all acquitted themselves well.

"Launton are a spoiling Team who have improved and play an effective long ball game to an experienced striker who is excellent in the air. This in addition to a dangerous long throw that led to their goal caused us problems all game. However, we did well to reverse a goal deficit and play some excellent football on a firm pitch, leading to two well taken goals by Tom Blyth, following good build up play by Nathan Irwin and John Tyrrell. The endeavour from the players was tremendous and the result was well deserved come the final whistle," commented Manager Barry Granger.

"It is very disappointing news that striker Rob Sage has decided not to play again this season following the birth of his daughter, but understandable. It is particularly frustrating given the exciting partnership that formed between him and Justin Bishop in January but just another example of our poor luck this season. However, on a positive note the form of John Tyrrell has shown that he is capable of playing at this level, so he will deservedly get his chance." concluded Barry.

Possible Slip Up - 18th March

Rocks make the return trip to Launton Sports tomorrowknowing that a potential banana skin awaits.

Due to Rocks late arrival for the original fixture the League Management Committee directed the match be re-fixtured as the clubs had failed to comply with Competition rules although Rocks had gained victory prior to Christmas, the Team will be without the services of Mark Totterdell, injured, whilst Marc Hughes and Justin Bishop are away on a social weekend.

Currently Manager Barry Granger is waiting on confirmation that defender Jon Peacock who was outstanding at Lydney last week is fit to play following dental surgery this week, and is hoping that striker Rob Sage who has missed the last five games due to the birth of his daughter will rejoin the squad. Rob Cave has recovered from injury that forced him to leave the field of play last Saturday, whilst recent signings Tom Perry, defender, and Tom Firth, midfield, will join the squad for the trip. "Launton's form has improved noticeably of late as it did last season, and their results show that they have become a hard Team to beat. Our missing players will be a loss to us on the day, but we will travel with a Team perfectly capable of gaining a result", commented Manager Barry Granger

Squad: Tom Sheppard, Rob Cave, Jon Peacock, Adam Keslake, Phil Williams, Ross Irwin, Mark Viner, Tom Blyth, Nathan Irwin, Rob Sage, John Tyrrell, Tom Perry, Tom Firth, Paul Staddon

Totterdell Fund Raiser - 17th March

Following Mark Totterdell's injury at Lydney Town, a fund raising afternoon has been arranged at Shireway Sports & Social Club, Yate, on Sunday 27th March.

A Race night (afternoon) will be the format between 1pm and 4.30pm. Alan Shield of Shireway Sports and Ben Walker of Winterbourne United have kindly made the necessary arrangements, so the event will run free of charge.

"It is hoped that as many members of each respective Club will attend to raise a good fund for 'Totts'. It is understood that people may not be able to commit to the whole afternoon, but it is hoped that Rocks players/members will be able to give up an hour or two of their time," commented Manager Barry Granger. In a time when football is cited as an insular sport it is good to see local rivals combining towards a deserved cause.

hellenic league mark totterdell tytherington rocks"Totts" Crocked - 14th March

Tytherington Rocks battling performance at Lydney Town (1-1 draw) was marred when it was confirmed that midfield player MarkTotterdell broke his fibula and damaged ankle and knee ligaments.

The injusry happened when his studs caught in the turf during a tackle after only two minutes of the game. "Totts", the first teams unofficial social secretary had organised a team night out in Bristol as well as the end of season tour, and was looking forward to festivities. He was taken to Gloucester Hospital by ambulance where x-rays showed the extent of the injury. All at The Rocks wish Mark a speedy recovery in what has turned out to be relentless in the number of injuries suffered by the club.

Manager Barry Granger reported that, " the Club were insistent that midfielder Mark Totterdell will not suffer financially as a result of the broken leg he sustained in the 2nd minute at Lydney on Saturday. To say that everyone was gutted for the lad is an under statement, he is an underrated player who has been an ever present in the team this season, and has been the driving force behind a good Team spirit/social outing coordination".

"Saturday saw the Team earn another deserved point off of a top of the table side. Lydney who caused us problems throughout, never let us settle and have a class player in wingback Danny Clarke. However, the lads showed great resolve to equalise late in the game and make it only one defeat in seven this year. Marc Hughes earned the point with a salmon like leap to score with a superb header from Justin Bishop's excellent cross," said Barry.

"I can't single any player out from 1 to 14 after that performance, and our continued good form against top clubs makes me wonder that with a less extensive injury list could we have challenged this season? I know that can be a Managerial excuse but with 6 draws and 5 single goal defeats it is a thin dividing line between mid table and top three. One thing I am sure of is our commitment to give it everything in our remaining games to climb the table and compete in every game, we owe that to all those challenging for honours," Barry closed.

hellenic league jimmy potts tytherington rocksKeslake Named Captain - 12th March

Adam Keslake has been named as the Rocks new Captain following the departure of Danny Thorpe.

Kes skippered the Team before his break from the game last season and is well respected by his Team mates.

"I have known Kes for a number of years, not only is he a good player, but he communicates and motivates well. He will be my voice on the pitch and will be ablely supported by Vice Captain Mark Viner who returns to the squad following injury this weekend. There was a story in theBristol Evening Post that Marc Hughes had become Captain, but that was a misprint; rumour has it that Hughsey made a generous donation to the 'Post' pension fund," reported Manager Barry Granger

.

On The Mend - 9th March

Manager Barry Granger is pleased to announce that Mark Viner and Rob Cave have recovered from injury and will rejoin the Rocks squad for the tough away encounter at Lydney Town this Saturday.

Unfortunately Striker Rob Sage who became a dad this week will not be available until next weekend. However, with a new defensive signing imminent to replace the departing Danny Thorpe, the squad should at long last have more depth in the coming weeks. "Yet again we have been tested of late with numbers due to injuries and availability, but since the turn of the year we have played four of the top five, and in six league games only lost once. We know that our trip to Lydney will be a difficult one but I am confident we can maintain our good record there over recent seasons," commented Barry.

Squad; Tom Sheppard, Jon Peacock, Adam Keslake, Phil Williams, Nathan Irwin, Ross Irwin, Rob Cave, Tom Blyth, Mark Totterdell, Marc Hughes, Mark Viner, Justin Bishop, John Tyrell, Tom Firth.

Thorpe Stands Down - 8th March

danny thorpe hellenic football soccer tytheringtonRocks captain Danny Thorpe (pictured) has decided to stand down from playing due to family commitments with immediate effect.

"Dan's wife's is due to give birth soon, so travelling and the commitment required at this level has been difficult in recent weeks for him. He has not reached the high standards he sets himself of late, and has made the decision based on the need to spend more time with his family, and take a break from the game. Thorpey is old school, he is honest, dedicated to the Club and has never given me less than 100% in the time I have managed him at the Rocks. He was the Team's top scorer last season, a tremendous achievement from a defender. The Team will miss him but family and happiness comes before anything in life We wish him and his partner well in the coming birth, and hope to see them and the baby in due course at the Club." commented Manager Barry Granger.

Although disappointed by their side's loss of game plan for the first twenty five minutes of the second period, Manager and Assistant, Barry Granger and Paul Staddon were happy with the eventual point gained against Cricklade Town on Saturday. "I was so pleased with our performance in the first half where we pressed the ball well and nullified our opponent's game, so I thought we were set to become more offensive after the break. Therefore, I was frustrated again by a period of inconsistency that saw us lose our game plan and go behind, with Tom Sheppard pulling off two great saves to keep us in the game. Credit is due to the lads as they regrouped and deservedly equalised late in the game through a Marc Hughes penalty, with a late Justin Bishop effort nearly securing a win. Again the game showed that despite three regulars missing we were able to take points from a good top four Team, we just need consistency in our game to climb the table, "said Barry

The club are also pleased to congratulate centre forward Rob Sage who became a dad on Monday. His partner Amiz had a baby girl, Bethany Claire, 9 pounds in the early hours, both doing well.

Cave Out - 4th March

Rocks have been hit by the news that defender Rob Cave will need further rest from a lower back problem and will thus miss the visit of Cricklade Town on Saturday.

In addition Rob Sage's partner is due to give birth so he too will miss the game, along with vice captain Mark Viner who is on a prolonged recuperation period. Tom Firth and Jon Tyrell come into the squad, whilst Phil Williams will make his first start at senior level this season. "We can still field a good team, and we are aware that our visitors have lost two key players of late, so I am not the only one with a selection headache. With respect to the game itself, those players who played in the opening day 7-4 defeat can not possibly need any motivation for this game", commented Manager Barry Granger.

Re-Application - 28th February

Tytherington Rocks will shortly re-submit their plans to South Gloucestershire council for floodlights for the Hardwicke Playing Field ground.

The club withdrew its previous application due to concerns by the planning department regarding lux levels and light spillage.

Musco, the company designing the system to be employed, have submitted their final technical report to the club, and Rocks are confident that their re-submission of the planning application to the council will result in a favourable decision by April.

Injury Hoodoo Strikes Again - 24th February

mark Viner hellenic football soccer tytheringtonTytherington Rocks have been rocked by the news that ever present midfielder and Vice Captain Mark Viner is set to be out of action for an indefinite period following the result of an MRI scan on his shoulder.

"This season has been the most difficult I can remember with respect to injury, and this comes as a blow to the team. Mark has been playing in discomfort for many months following what was thought to be a minor shoulder injury sustained in car accident. However, following physio, an injection and a subsequent scan, a tear has been diagnosed that is going to require rest, further physio and possibly a further injection," commented Manager Barry Granger. "Trying to maintain a consistent squad across the last eighteen months has been a weekly task, and explains in part some of the Team's inconsistent form. I chose to leave Mark out last Saturday for the first time in three seasons as I could see he needed a rest, but I did not anticipate this news. I know how much he loves his football and gives for the Team, so we all wish him a speedy recovery," said Barry.

Therefore, the Team will be without the services of Mark, Rob Cave (Holiday) and Rob Sage ( Expectant father) for the tough trip to Clanfield this weekend, with John Tyrell and Russell Driver being added to the squad.
Squad; Tom Sheppard, Nathan Irwin, Adam Keslake, Danny Thorpe, Phil Williams, Russell Driver, Mark Totterdell, Ross Irwin, Mac Hughes, Tom Blyth, Jon Peacock, Justin Bishop, John Tyrell

Management Disappointed - 22nd February

Rocks management, Barry Granger and Paul Staddon reported themselves as disappointed as the players after the defeat at home to Easington Sports on Saturday.

"Our first half performance was inept, and lacked a concerted Team effort to close down our opponents, who deservedly led at the break. After a clear the air discussion at the interval, the lads responded and camped in the opposition half for the second period, but a number of half chances could not be converted. It is really disappointing having taken good points off of top of the table opposition this year, as that work has now been wasted. "said Barry. "The players need to learn quickly that there are no easy games in this League, and if you do not pay your opponents respect, earning the right to play, you will not win games. I expect a response at Clanfield as they are a prime example of a team going well who work as hard at 2-0 down as they do at 2-0 up"

Defender Rob Cave picked up a back injury in the match, and will miss the trip to Clanfield this weekend, however, Phil Williams replaced him from the bench after his long lay off due to injury and deputised admirably. It is also likely that striker Rob Sage will be missing again Saturday as his partner has still not given birth and he needs to be local to home in the interim.

Rocks Prepare For Sports - 18th February

Rocks prepare for the visit of Easington Sports, who gained a good point at Winterbourne despite having no manager, knowing that a difficult game is expected.

The team have received some good news prior to the fixture, manager Barry Granger has confirmed that the Club have received a formal 7 day approach from Larkhall Athletic of The Western Premier Division for Rocks striker Justin Bishop. He is delighted to report that Justin has committed himself to the Club for the rest of the Season. "Justin's attitude and performance on the pitch has been a major reason in our improved recent League form this year, so I am delighted that he has decided to stay with us", commented Barry.

Squad:Tom Sheppard Rob Cave Adam Keslake Danny Thorpe Mark Totterdell Marc Hughes Mark Viner Tom Blyth Nathan Irwin Justin Bishop Rob Sage Jon Peacock Ross Irwin Phil Williams John Tyrel

The Patter Of Tiny Boots - 15th February

There must be something in the water at Tytherington this season, or perhaps manager Barry Granger and his assistant Paul Staddon have not been working the players hard enough in training.

A baby boom is occurring, already there has been children born to Mark Totterdell and Mark Viner, plus twins to goalkeeper Steve Pegler, and there are 4 expectant fathers, due in the next 8 weeks, so we expect next season our clubhouse to resemble a crèche. We wish all the players and their families well over the forthcoming weeks and hope the players do not have too many sleepless nights before games.

Rocks Up For Cup - 11th February

Tytherington Rocks management team are taking the Hellenic Supplementary Cup seriously and name their strongest side for the away fixture at Hook Norton.

Only long term injury striker Marcus Taylor, still awaiting a date for his knee operation, is missing. On a brighter note Phil Williams who fractured his skull in pre-season has now played two reserve games and is pushing for a recall. Therefore Rob Sage returns from suspension and Jon Peacock returns after a three week break

Squad: T Sheppard, R Cave, A Keslake, D Thorpe, J Peacock, R Irwin, M Totterdell, M Hughes, M Viner, T Blyth, N Irwin, Justin Bishop, R Sage.

Happy With Team Performance - 8th February

Tytherington Rocks management team Barry Granger and Paul Staddon reported themselves enthused by the side's excellent comeback in a highly entertaining game against a strong Cheltenham Saracens side at the weekend

Trailing 2 – 0 at the interval having played into a gale force wind, the Team responded with an emphatic second half display that saw them draw level, and almost snatch victory. "I was annoyed with myself as I believe I delayed changing our shape early enough in the game, as we controlled the last hour of the match once we matched our opponents 3-5-2 formation", said Barry. "That said, both teams played some really good football considering the conditions, our good run continues having taken points off of the top three Clubs of late, and our high fitness levels are allowing us to look the stronger side in the later stages of games. The lads deserve credit for their regular attendance at training sessions this season, and the way that they have stuck to their task despite a difficult first half to the season"

Attractive Competition - 4th February

Rocks manager Barry Granger reports he is looking forward to a competitive and attractive game of football in this weekends` fixture at home to Cheltenham Saracens K.O 3:00 pm.

"Historically we have had some very good and close encounters against our visitors, who are managed by Gerry Oldham, someone I respect for the way in which he sets his Team up to play. I believe that they will in the top three come the end of the season, but I am confident that we will compete well in this fixture, off of the back of some impressive performances of late," commented Barry.

The game sees The Rocks without the services of Rob Sage, one match suspension, and Jimmy Potts, transferred to Winterbourne, whilst Tom Blyth and Ross Irwin return from injury, Jon Peacock from holiday, and impressive displays from forward John Tyrel in the Reserves see him promoted to the Squad.

Squad: Tom Sheppard, Rob Cave, Adam Keslake, Danny Thorpe, Mark Totterdell, Marc Hughes, Mark Viner, Tom Blyth, Nathan Irwin, Justin Bishop, Ross Irwin, John Peacock Russell Driver John Tyrel

Disappointed But Not Surprised - 26th January

Barry Granger and Paul Staddon reported themselves disappointed but not surprised at the weekend's postponed fixture at Purton. It was disappointing as we were looking to continue our improved form, but our opponents kept us updated from Friday and left it as late as possible before a final decision was made.

However, this gave Barry the chance to watch the Reserves whose progress has been good this season considering the weather and continual non availability of players. Unfortunately a very poor pitch at Whitchurch made the game as a spectacle, non existent, however, Barry commented on energetic performances from Rob Worlock and John Tyrell.

hellenic league ben rose tytherington rocksLooking ahead to Saturday's First XI Supplementary Cup fixture Barry has confirmed that Ben Rose (right) will play ninety minutes in goal with Tom Sheppard playing for the Reserves in the home fixture against Wessex. We are lucky to have two such top quality keepers at the Club, and this game is reward for Ben's loyalty and patience whilst playing for the Reserves this season. Tom's agreement is also testament to his great attitude and has made the switch this Saturday straightforward stated Barry.

Rob Sage will miss the game due to suspension whilst Justin Bishop, Tom Blyth, Ross Irwin and Russell Driver have to confirm their availability.

I am keen to continue our good run of form (I know Hook Norton are a much improved side) albeit a couple of players may get game time to give them match fitness dependant on availability. I am mindful that we have a very tough League game the following Saturday at home to Cheltenham so I want to retain a degree of continuity.

Looking Forward To Purton Trip - 21st January

Rocks Manager Barry Granger is hopeful that he will be able to field the same starting line up for this Saturday's fixture at Purton for the first time this season.

Ross Irwin and Tom Blyth will miss the game through injury, Jon Peacock will return to bolster the squad after a skiing trip.
Buoyed by the side's impressive New Year form and following the excellent victory over Lydney Town, Barry commented that the performance is all important this weekend. We owe it to ourselves and other Team's competing for honors to test Purton more seriously than we did in our November home defeat against them. I am confident the lads will compete this time.

Squad:Sheppard, Cave, Keslake, Thorpe, Toterdell, Hughes, Viner, Irwin, Bishop, Sage, Potts, Peacock, Driver, Lewis

hellenic league barry garanger tytherington rocksFantastic Saturday - 19th January

Tytherington Rocks manager Barry Granger paid tribute to his side's commitment on and off the pitch to complete what was a fantastic Saturday for the Club.

The players worked their socks off to beat what is undoubtedly a very strong Lydney Town Team this season, and followed this with a tremendous effort with others to lay on post match food and collect a sizeable fund for several injured players, he commented.

The Rocks New Year form has coincided with a couple of additions to the squad, the return of Adam Keslake, and a general coming together of the Team on and off the field of play across recent months, after a lot of hard work. This weekend should see the return of Jon Peacock to the squad after a skiing trip, but Tom Blyth is likely to need another week's rest from his back injury. To take 7 points from our last three difficult games is a good return, and I hope it gives us the confidence to go and compete against difficult opposition in Purton at the weekend. My real low point of the season to date, was our first half display at home to Purton in November, I know the players along with me want to test our opponents much more in the coming fixture, and I am confident that they will said Barry.

Injured Blyth - 13th January

hellenic league jimmy potts tytherington rocksRecent signing, midfielder Tom Blyth who has excelled in his first two appearances for The Rocks had to leave the field of play towards the end of the excellent away performance at League leaders Headington on Saturday.

He has damaged a back ligament and will need several physio sessions to recover; it is anticipated that he will miss the next two games. Manager Barry Granger commented that the season had been unkind to the Club with respect to injuries, with post match this Saturday seeing the Club running fund raising activities for several long term absentees.

"This weekend Rocks entertain without doubt one of the strongest sides in the League, Lydney Town K.O 2:15pm, and Tom's loss is a blow for us, but our squad now has strength in depth and I am confident that we will compete on Saturday" reported Barry. "The only other doubt for the game at the moment is defender Jon Peacock who is on vacation, but he is anticipated to make it back for the game."

Rocks At Amateur's - 6th January 2011

Manager Barry Granger reported himself pleased with his side's impressive Bank Holiday victory over neighbours Winterbourne United.

He said that it was a hard earned victory on a heavy pitch, where both Teams provided good entertainment. The points were overdue in Barry's opinion as he believes that despite the long term absence of striker Marcus Taylor the Club now possesses a good squad. The victory preceded what will be a difficult fortnight with the Rocks facing the League's top two Clubs.

"Rocks travel to Headington this weekend expected by many to lose the game, but we have a victory and a draw from our last visits to reflect upon, so I am confident we will compete" commented Granger. "Recent signing Tom Blyth who came on to score the winner in an impressive display will make his full debut, whilst Russell Driver will have returned from holiday, and Dan Chorley from sickness. However, defender Jon Peacock leaves for a Skiing trip on the morning of the game so is unavailable."

West Country Derby - 31st December

Tytherington Rocks will be missing young defender Dan Chorley and midfielder Russell Driver from the squad for the visit to Winterbourne United on Bank Holiday Monday. However, Adam Keslake makes a welcome return to availability and recent signing Tom Blyth will join the squad for the first time, whilst Rob Sage will make his League debut, utility player Ross Irwin will also be available for the first time since tearing ankle ligaments at Easington in September.

As in all previous Hellenic League encounters Manager Barry Granger anticipates a typical derby full of endeavor, and knows Bourne Manager Nick Tanner will be looking to avenge our early season victory. In truth his young side backed by experienced campaigners have settled quicker to the League than some would have suggested. Rocks have a lot of respect for the Club, their rise and subsequent success in the Hellenic League, backed by a growing youth policy and improved facilities in the near future will surely see them dominant again.

Rocks Temporarily Withdraw Application - 21st December

Tytherington Rocks are determined to press ahead with their bid to install floodlights at the Hardwicke playing fields in the new year. As a result of the clubs initial application, 30 minor objections were lodged with the planning office and an issue about light spillage were raised.

However, floodlight suppliers Musco have confirmed that they can reduce the light levels within the acceptable limit, but, as this needs to be put in writing, the application has temporarily been withdrawn and will be re-submitted in January.
This will prolong the process by approximately six weeks, but the club are confident that planning will then be passed. Rocks will then finally be at a stage to move ahead and set about putting the required funds in place.

On the playing front the fixture scheduled at home to Malmesbury Vics on Monday 27th, Rocks manager Barry Granger reports a full squad with the exception of Russell Driver who is in France for the Festive period. It has been decided that a fund raising event will take place after the match in Tytherington Rocks Clubhouse, with total receipts being divided equally between two Rocks Players, Phil Williams and Marcus Taylor who have both sustained serious injury playing for the Club this Season. In the spirit of Christmas the players will be providing food to entertain our visitors and home players/supporters after the game.

Ex Skipper and influential defender Adam Keslake (pictured) has given the Club a major boost ahead of the Christmas programme by making himself available with immediate effect.

He was due to go straight into the squad for the fixture at Trowbridge Town toady, however the weather conditions have scuppered the fixture.

Mixed Emotions - 14th December

Rock's manager Barry Granger and assistant Paul Staddon looked back on the weekend's GFA Cup defeat against Hallen with mixed emotions.

The Rocks conceded another four goals without reply, but the positives from the game were a much improved performance from the Team with the opposing Manager admitting that the score line flattered his side. For an hour it was a competitive game, but when Hallen scored their second goal, the edge went off the game. Rocks rallied in the last fifteen minutes, with Sage, Bishop and Robinson going close. However, having reviewed the footage of three of the opponents goals on a HD camera Astra Communications trailed to film the match, Barry saw frailties that will be discussed at this week's training session.

Individual positives came with a useful debut by Rob Sage, committed effort from Rob Cave and Nathan Irwin, whilst Marc Hughes stood out in midfield.

Disappointing news from the weekend confirmed that Marcus Taylor may have to wait up to three months for his ACL reconstruction operation with a nine month rehabilitation period to follow. Despite some of the setbacks of recent weeks, the First Team Squad enjoyed it's Christmas night out on Saturday with an entertaining evening at The Bierkeller, Bristol, funded by the 'Fines Fund'.

Respect For Past Player - 13th December

A minutes silence for Fred Witchard one of Tytherington's most loyal supporters who passed away on Thursday 9th December, was held before the Hallen GFA Challenge Trophy fixture held on Saturday.

Fred was a Tytheringon born former Rocks player who on giving up the game became a referee for many years. To his wife and family The Rocks extend their deepest sympathy, he will be missed by the players for his vocal support and when needed his humorous comments.

Rocks Hope Cup Tie Takes Place - 10th December

Having looked at the pitch yesterday morning Rocks will need two days of +5 temperatures with no overnight frost for the game to proceed tomorrow. A pitch inspection will go ahead at 10:00am Saturday morning. We have booked a small sports hall in nearby Thornury for two weeks, where we spent 90 minutes this week, and will again next week. We are hopeful that we will then return to outside 3G Venue at Marlwood School after Christmas

The club have signed utility player Tom Blyth, ex Hallen, Axa player who will become available next week onwards, I hope his signing along with that of Rob Sage and the returning Adam Keslake will strengthen the squad after recent injuries and departures and create much needed competition.

Squad: Sheppard, Cave, Irwin R. Irwin N, Peacock, Thorpe, Robinson, Totterdell, Hughes, Viner, Bishop, Driver, Potts, Sage

Inspection Awaited - 3rd December

Tytherington Rocks will hold a pitch inspection at 10:00am tomorrow to see if their GFA Trophy cup tie against Toolstation Premier side Hallen will go ahead. Although the area of South Gloucestershire has had little snow, very low temperatures during the week have resulted in a deep frost still remains in the pitch.

Manager Barry Granger has wasted no time in signing a replacement striker for Marcus Taylor who was ruled out for the season following a scan earlier this week. Ex Rocks forward Rob Sage will join the Club from Oldland Abbotonians, and will go in to the squad for the G.F.A. County Cup game with Hallen, dispensation permitting. Barry commented " Marcus is going to be a big void to fill, but in Rob we have someone who I am confident will do a good job for the Team in a slightly different style, he is a more traditional target man who is proven at this level". Sage will join the Club on the back of the news of Adam Keslake's pending return, whilst Barry is also talking to a defender who he is hopeful of bringing to the Rocks next week. The Management Team of Barry and Paul Staddon were particularly hurt by the manner of the recent first half performance against Purton and are united in their efforts to eradicate the type of performance that has seen them concede too many goals this season.

Taylor Out With Injury - 30th November

hellenic league marcus taylor tytherington rocksTytherington Rocks are sad to report that it was confirmed yesterday that in form striker Marcus Taylor (pictured) has a tear in his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and a chip in his femur following his injury recently in the home fixture against Purton.

An operation is likely to be required, so it is unlikely Marcus will play for the Rocks some time, this is blow to the Club and more importantly Marcus who plies his trade as a Personal Trainer. Everyone associated with Tytherington wish Marcus the best of recoveries.

Barry Granger has confirmed that sweeper and ex skipper Adam Keslake has announced his availability and return to the Club effective the home game against Malmesbury on 27th December, as his family commitments have eased. This is great news for the Club as his playing ability and communication skills have been missed this season. The Rocks are also talking to a striker who Barry is confident of signing this week, prior to the GFA Cup fixture at home to Hallen F.C. on Saturday, this will fill the void left by Marcus Taylor.

The club will continue to use the excellent facilities at Marlwood schools 3G pitch during the winter months from 7:00 to 8:30 pm, new prospective players are always welcome for details please contact Barry on 07867782247.

The club is buoyed by news that it has been confirmed that Tytherington have headed the One West tables in the quarterly Web Site Awards; great credit goes to Allan Viner for his work in this process with regular submissions of Club News.

Rocks Go Hooky - 26th November

The Rocks will travel to Hook Norton for this Saturday's Supplementary Cup fixture depleted by injury and non availability, Vice Captain Mark Viner, virtually an ever present in recent seasons misses out following an injection to try and resolve a long standing shoulder problem, whilst Dan Chorley has family commitments and Marcus Taylor is awaiting an M.R.I. scan after injuring his knee last week.

However, Manager Barry Granger reported that his starting XI would be strong, with Justin Bishop returning to a striking role to partner Jimmy Potts, who by his own standards has been quiet recently in front of goal. But given his consistent form over a number of seasons, the opposition should fear his return to scoring form.

Barry will also use the game to give Reserve Team Keeper Ben Rose a deserved start after he has remained exceptionally patient over recent months. He believes that the Rocks are fortunate to have two quality keepers on the books in Ben and current first choice Tom Sheppard. The camaraderie and respect between the two is excellent, and displays a great Club ethic with Sheps prepared to play for the Reserves this weekend to give Ben his opportunity.

Squad: Ben Rose, Rob Cave, Nathan Irwin, Jon Peacock, Danny Thorpe, Mark Totterdell, Russell Driver, Dan Robinson, Marc Hughes, Jimmy Potts, Justin Bishop Ross Irwin, Paul Staddon

Embarrassed - 25th November

The Rocks Management Team announced themselves embarrassed by the team's first half performance on Saturday against Purton.

Manager Barry Granger paid tribute to Purton's quality of play in the opening stages, but said that he was bitterly disappointed with the Team's decision making and failure to play as a unit whilst the visitors were in the ascendancy. "Purton were allowed to play a total football game where we put no pressure on the ball at all in the first thirty minutes", commented Barry. The game saw three early substitutions and a change of shape that at least brought some respectability after the break, with the visitors failing to add to their score, despite the Rocks playing 35 minutes with 10 men as striker Marcus Taylor was forced to leave the field of play after sustaining a knee injury. Assistant, Paul Staddon said "Although the game was won, just by changing our approach to the game, we showed what could be achieved with the right attitude of mind. Whilst we have been unlucky with injuries this season, the 14 players available on Saturday possessed the experience and quality to be competitive at this level, the first half performance was unacceptable".

Initial news on striker Marcus Taylor is not good, he spent some time in hospital on Sunday, and is returning for an MRI scan on Monday. The injury is thought to be more related to cartridge than ligament at this stage, but he will not play again until The New Year. It is a blow for the lad and the Club, he is maturing into a very good player and is a key part of the Team, all concerned with the Club wish Marcus well. The injury is compounded by Ollie's Clarke decision to accept a 7 day approach from Axa in the County League last week; Ollie said that he wanted to cut down on travel following the birth of his son, and did not feel assured of place in the starting line up; whilst disappointed by his decision the Club wish him well. Barry reports that due to the long term absentees of Keslake, Mooney, Williams, Davidson, Serrano, Taylor and the loss of Clarke, he will need to look to bolster the squad. This will not be easy at this stage of the season as players are settled, many do not want the travel involved, whilst others ask for elaborate expenses, but feelers have already gone out. Good news can be reported with the form of Marc Hughes and Justin Bishop on their return to the side on Saturday, whilst Ross Irwin will be available this Saturday for the first time in 8 weeks.

Players Return - 19th November

Justin Bishop and Daniel Robinson return to the 'Rocks' squad after work commitments made them unavailable for the trip to Launton Sports last weekend.

In addition Marc Hughes came through a full training session this week, and will return to the squad on the bench this weekend after a 6 week absence. Unfortunately Ross Irwin having recovered from an 8 week layout is now unwell with mumps so is likely to miss out for another week.

However, good news comes in the shape of youngster Phil Williams being given the all clear to start training next week after a 4 month recovery period following a fractured skull sustained in one of our pre season friendlies. We all look forward to seeing Phil playing again when he is ready. The team go into Saturday's fixture having taken 9 points from a possible 12, and on the back of an excellent training session at local Marlwood School's new 3g grass all weather surface on Wednesday. Thanks go to Reserve player and teacher at the school Chris Wiggle for arranging the venue

Floodlight Application - 16th November

After a long process, meeting planners from both The Parish and County councils Tytherington Rocks have submitted their planning application for floodlights at their Hardwicke playing fields ground. Results from the application are expected around Christmas.

A lot of hard work was undertaken and a special mention must go to committee member Barry Whittaker, who oversaw the application with Chairman Ted Travel.

l
This will be the first stage in what is hoped will be the first of major developments on the ground with funds being made available for a new club house, to be built the other end of the ground to the existing clubhouse.

Players Missing - 12th November

Justin Bishop and Dan Robinson will be unable to make the long trip to Launton Sports tomoorow due to work commitments.

Marc Hughes may join the squad for the warm up after training this week, but will not play. Ross Irwin is two weeks away from playing, after a good training session last night, 18 year old Dan Chorley will make his full debut in defence after being on the bench for the last two fixtures. Manager Barry Granger admits his squad is a bit thin, compounded by injuries and non availability of reserve team players this weekend, however he is confident that a strong starting XI will take the field of play.

Squad: Sheppard, Cave, Irwin.N, Chorley, Thorpe, Totterdell, Peacock, Clarke, Viner, Driver, Potts, Taylor, Lewis, Staddon

hellenic league barry garanger tytherington rocksGranger Frustrated - 9th November

Manager Barry Granger reports himself extremely frustrated to have seen another Tytherington home lead lost again last Saturday. Leading 2 – 1 with fifteen minutes remaining, the visitors scored through two set plays, a long throw and edge of the box free kick two minutes from time to win the game.

Rock's inability to defend as a unit and avoid conceding regular set plays in our own third has cost at least 6 points this season, which is the difference between mid table and a top four league position. Work will be actioned on the training ground this week with an intention of alleviating mistakes, with particular emphasis on set plays.

The team have defended adequately across the last three seasons with the odd exception, but had great difficulty in scoring; with an influx of players the trend has been reversed. Barry said " It stops this weekend, it is about players communicating and taking responsibility so I will not be averse to making changes if they are needed be to achieve the outcome. It is not about systems of play, it is about decision making".

Due to work commitments Justin Bishop will miss the trip to Launton Sports, whilst news on the pending birth of Ollie's Clarke's first child is awaited, Ross Irwin and Marc Hughes are still not available due to recovery from long term injuries. Therefore, changes will be needed, so young defender Dan Chorley is likely to be given his first full senior outing for the Club.

Buoyant Rocks - 4th November

Rocks are in buoyant mood as they prepare for the visit of Bicester Town. Both teams have had similar starts to the season, so a close encounter is envisaged.

The Rocks have received good news this week with ex Yate Town midfielder Marc Hughes being given the go ahead to resume training after missing 4 weeks with a knee ligament injury. It is hoped that providing there is no reaction to training he will gain some match practise in the Reserves across the next couple of weeks before returning to the First Team squad.

Utility player Ross Irwin has trained for the last two weeks after a slow recovery from an ankle ligament injury, and should be able to test it in a Reserve outing in the next fortnight.

The Rocks only area of concern being midfielder Ollie Clarke who's partner is due to give birth at anytime. Therefore
the starting eleven is likely to be unchanged

Squad: Sheppard, Cave, Peacock, Thorpe, N.Irwin, Viner, Clarke, Bishop, Totterdell, Taylor, Potts, Chorley, Driver.

Weekend Of Points & Pounds - 1st November

hellenic league ollie clarke tytherington rocksOn the back of a resounding league win and good performance on a difficult surface at Malmesbury Victoria, the Club's Race Night on Saturday proved a social and financial success, with an anticipated profit of £800 aiding club resources.

This has been backed by great news this morning in that influential midfielder Ollie Clarke (pictured) has turned down a 7 day approach to join Screwfix Premier Team Longwell Green Sports.

The hard work behind the scenes at the Club as well as on the pitch is beginning to reap rewards, and puts all associated with the club in buoyant mood as we prepare for this weeks' home fixture against Bicester.

Granger Bouyed - 29th October

hellenic league marcus taylor tytherington rocksManager Barry Granger has been buoyed by the news that striker Marcus Taylor (pictured) has announced himself fit after recovering from injury quicker than anticipated, after leaving the field of play last Saturday.

He will be part of a squad that includes new signing Dan Chorley, a young defender from City Academy Of Bristol, a lad who Barry reports has a good physique, touch and an excellent attitude. The Rocks will look to make it three wins in a row as they travel to Malmesbury and continue to climb the League Table

Squad Stretched - 27th October

Rocks first team squad is likely to be stretched this weekend for the away fixture to Malmesbury Vics.

Marc Hughes and Ross Irwin are still a few weeks away from fitness and striker Marcus Taylor is struggling with a tendon injury. Dan Robinson and Gary Gayner both missed last weeks` game with groin strains and a decision will be made about their fitness at training this week. Russell Driver is away.

Manager Barry Granger is hoping to register defender Dan Chorley from Bristol Academy and striker Leigh Andrews ex Hanham Athletic in time for the fixture.

On the social front, the clubs Race night will take place at Tytherington Village Hall this Saturday at 7:30pm. Sponsors have been secured for all the races and most of the horses have been sold, so the club is hoping to raise a substantial amount of money to help meet the increasing costs of running the club.

Rocks Verses Hooky - 22nd October

Rocks visitor tomorrow Hook Norton, have like the hosts had a slow start to the season, but history tells us that the fixture is always competitive and we expect that to continue.

Tytherington enter the game on the back of an impressive 6-0 victory in the GFA Challenge Trophy so confidence is high, and the team were in buoyant mood at training during the week.

The Rocks will again be without Marc Hughes and Dan Robinson for the visit of as the fixture has come a little too soon as they battle back from injury. Jon Peacock is available despite suffering a nasty mouth wound last Saturday, that saw him lose teeth and require extensive dental care this week. Wide midfield player Russell Driver is poised to make a first start after coming on as substitute last weekend

Squad: Tom Sheppard, Rob Cave, Jon Peacock, Nathan Irwin, Danny Thorpe, Mark Totterdell, Ollie Clarke, Mark Viner, Russell Driver, Justin Bishop, Jimmy Potts, Marcus Taylor, Greg Lewis.

Happy But More To Come - 19th October

Barry Granger was happy with his Team's convincing victory on Saturday in the GFA Challenge Trophy, but still believes there is more to come from his squad. "It was good to see goals scored throughout the side on Saturday, and the set play goal was particularly pleasing".

The prospect of a home tie against higher opposition in the form of Hallen FC in the next round is good news for the Club as it should ensure a good attendance. The one point of concern following Saturday's game was the injury to Jon Peacock, who despite remaining on the pitch, lost two teeth in an aerial challenge. Jon is seeing a dentist today, so we should know the full extent of the problem in due course; Marc Hughes will have a further physio session this Wednesday with a view to returning to the squad for Saturday's home fixture against Hook Norton should his knee problem have healed sufficiently.

Granger Summarises Rocks - 15th October

hellenic league barry garanger tytherington rocksTytherington manager Barry Granger takes a phylosophical moment to review his team performance so far this season.

Granger said: "When you look at the players in our squad this season, a number of people immediately associated it with success. However, experience tells me that all good Teams are built on Team play, good players and a slice of luck. The Team play is there but inconsistent at the moment, the players are there, as for luck, well our crippling list of injuries has been an undoubted challenge thus far."

"Apart from our opening day defeat where we were well beaten in the last 30 minutes we have been close to winning every game this season, success or failure has a thin dividing line in sport. We are creating chances and playing good football in spells, therefore, I am confident the Team will turn the corner, and I believe it will be sooner rather than later".

This weekend will see a couple of reserve players given some experience in the GFA Challenge Trophy game against Hanham Athletic, as Marc Hughes will be missing due to injury , probably for two weeks, along with other long term absentees, Ross Irwin, Phil Williams, James Mooney and Luke Davidson, all will not be available until after Christmas at the earliest.

luke davidson hellenic football soccer tytheringtonInjuries "Rocks" Cup Preparations - 11th October

Tytherington Rocks take a welcome break from what has so far been a disappointing league campaign with a GFA Challenge Trophy 2nd round tie against Hanham Athletic from the Gloucestershire County League.

Manager Barry Granger reports further injury news following recent games. Midfielder Luke Davidson (pictured) was given the all clear to start training last week after a 6 week lay off with a hamstring injury, only to break down with a groin problem. Upon checking with his GP it has been confirmed that he has a hernia that will require surgery in December. Luke will not resume training until the New Year.

To compound matters influential midfield/striker Marc Hughes had to leave the field of play with a knee injury against Chalfont Wasps and was unable to partake in Saturday's fixture against Clanfield. He is booked to see the Club Physio Tuesday Evening where it is expected medial ligament damage will be confirmed, with a subsequent recovery plan.

Welcome In Form Clanfield - 7th October

Tytherington Rocks welcome in form Clanfield to the Hardwicke playing fields on Saturday, a fixture that is always competitive.

Rocks will give a late test to midfield player Marc Hughes, who had to leave the field with a jarred knee last weekend. Recent signing Barry Young stands by to make his first start. Rocks recent form has been good although they have not won in their last five outings with the last three games being drawn at 90 minutes ( Last week lost 4-1 on pens after extra time to Chalfont Wasps). Defender Gary Gayner has another run out for the reserves.

Squad: Tom Sheppard, Dan Robinson, Nathan Irwin, Jon Peacock, Danny Thorpe, Mark Totterdell, Ollie Clarke, Mark Viner, Marc Hughes, Barry Young, Jimmy Potts, Marcus Taylor, Rob Cave, Tom Gibson, Tim Whittaker, James Willott.

There was some good news concerning 18 year old defender Phil Williams (pictured), who fractured his skull in a pre-season friendly in July.

Tytherington Manager Barry Granger revealed: "He had his follow up scan recently where the consultant reported that the healing process has been excellent and that Phil could return to driving and work experience. However he will need another six months before he can return to competitive action"

The club is also pleased to report the signing of experienced striker Justin Bishop, whom it is hoped will take some of the pressure of young Marcus Taylor and prolific Jimmy Potts. Bishop made his debut against Chalfont Wasps as a second half substitute and showed some exquisite touches but missed a penalty in the shoot out that the Wasps won 4-1.

Rocks Look Forward To Cup Weekend - 28th September

Tytherington Rocks prepare for this weekends Bluefin Insurance Brokers Challenge Cup fixture against Chalfont Wasps in buoyant mood after last Saturdays draw at Cheltenham Saracens.

During the build up to the game work had taken place in building a team ethic and boss Barry Granger described the result as fantastic, especially as the side were down to bare bones , with defender Rob Cave withdrawing during the warm up. Reverting to a solid back four, Dan Robinson replacing Cave for his first full game of the season.

Despite heavy first half pressure from the strong Cheltenham side, The Rocks did not concede a goal for the first time this season, a result of great commitment and team spirit.

This was also reflected in the disappointment when a late "goal" by Jimmy Potts was disallowed although a video taken of the incident shows Potts were probably on side. The Rocks web site shows the incident and we will let others debate whether the goal should have stood. This is no reflection on the officials who worked well as a team throughout the match.

Following the game against Chalfont the squad are going to Swindon Dogs as part of the managements team building activities.

Rocks Prepare For Saracens - 24th September

The Rocks management team were pleased to see 25 players at training on Wednesday evening as they prepare for the difficult fixture at Cheltenham Saracens on Saturday.

On the injury front, defender Gary Grayner, who missed the last 3 weeks, will have a run out for the reserves this weekend if he suffers no reaction to the training session. Midfielder Luke Davidson should return to training next Wednesday Utility player Ross Irwin is probably 4 weeks away from fitness. The club don`t expect to see defenders Adam Keslake, and Phil Williams much before Christmas and James Mooney is out for the season Rob Cave and Marcus Taylor are expected to be fit and recover from knocks received last weekend.

Oh For A Scruffy One Nil! - 21st September

There was a lot of scratching of heads on Saturday at the end of Tytherington Rocks 3-3 draw with Letcombe, as Rocks conceded two goals in added time at the end of the game.

After the match manager Barry Granger immediately called a team meeting as a first step in trying to identify the problem with a side that is leaking goals on a regular basis, 16 goals conceded in 6 games. This weeks` training will certainly concentrate on the defensive side of the game. The loss to long term injuries of defenders captain Adam Keslake, Ross Irwin, Gary Gayner and Young Phil Williams means Barry has limited resources to change personnel, this was emphasised the previous game against Headington when Jon Peacock was injured in the warm up and veteran Tin Whittaker was called upon to play 90 minutes, after agreeing to sit on the bench to help the side. Stalwart Whittaker's appearance coming 21 years after making his debut for the club. On a positive note Rocks fans have seen 13 goals scored in the four home games, and returning striker Jimmy Potts added another double to his total against Letcombe.

Club Chairman Ted Travell reports bar takings are up, although Rocks fans are not drowning their sorrows just yet!

Rocks Community Project - 10th September

Manager Barry Granger attended a meeting this week related to a community based project that looks to rehabilitate young offenders16-18 year age bracket who are looking for work related courses in Sport.

Tytherington are looking to forge a long lasting relationship with the Government/1stFor Sport funded project. Initially, a working party in the next fortnight who will spend a day at the Club painting our pitch barriers and dug outs. This will hopefully lead onto match day help for numerous tasks.

On the actual playing front Barry will attend and view some Academy sessions at the Riverside in Bristol under the control of Tony Ricketts and Gary Green. The intention is for the Rocks to offer lads the opportunity to play for our Reserve or First Team over a prolonged period. This can assist them in their rehabilitation or course work if it is football specific, and possibly bring good quality players into the Club.

Rocks Ready For A's - 10th September

A depleted Tytherington Rocks side look forward to the visit of high flying Headington Amateurs without manager Barry Granger due to a previously arranged family holiday, so Injured James Mooney will assist Paul Staddon with team affairs.

hellenic league ross irwin tytherington rocksInjuries Mount for ‘The Rocks’ - 7th September

Manager Barry Granger received confirmation yesterday morning that defender Ross Irwin (pictured) who left the field of play late in the away defeat at Easington on Saturday, has badly ruptured ankle ligaments.

In a freak injury the opposition forward landed on Ross's ankle following a challenge for a header. Barry reports that Ross has started well this season, and it is a blow as his rehabilitation is likely to take up to 8 weeks. The injury comes on the top of news that defender/midfielder James Mooney who has not featured yet, was advised that he should not play this season after being told of his results from a scan on his knee ligament injury, on Friday. The squad is also missing Gary Gaynor, defender, groin, and Luke Davidson, midfield, hamstring for at least another week. All these injuries are on top of Phil Williams fractured scull in pre season, and confirmation this week that sweeper Adam Keslake will not be available for 6 weeks due to family reasons.

Barry reports that it is a particularly frustrating time as a lot of work had gone into forming a solid squad, which is now looking thin. 'However, that is something you have to accept and deal with at our level of football, and play through it, realising that many clubs suffer similar fates'. On a positive note despite Headington's excellent start to the season, a number of clubs are only separated by 3 points, so if the Team can show consistent improvement across future weeks, there is no reason at this point to feel anything other than upbeat about the coming games. Good news comes in the shape that Rob Cave is over his recent hip injury, Angel Serrano has returned from holiday, James Willott will be available after missing out this weekend for a Stag do. Former first teamer, veteran Micky Airs has signed for the reserves this week. A quality signing and someone who Barry could call upon if required in the months ahead.

Marc Hughes, The Rocks ex Yate Town midfield player has decided to remain with the Rocks this season despite a seven day approach from Bristol Manor Farm of The Toolstation Western League over the weekend.

Ahead of this weekends tough away fixture at Easington, Manager Barry Granger reports that he is hoping midfielder Luke Davidson will have recovered from a hamstring strain and be able to return to the squad. that defeated Winterbourne United 3-1 Sweeper Adam Keslake should also be available after returning from holiday, although striker Dave Legg is not available, Angel Serrano will come into the squad also having returned from holiday.

Rocks go into the game looking to obtain points that will give them a sound start to the season despite an opening day defeat.

After last Saturday’s impressive debut, defender Jonathon Peacock has committed himself to the Rocks for the remainder of the season.

Barry Granger reports a full squad for the coming local derby with Winterbourne with the exception of defender Adam Keslake who is on holiday. Manager Barry Granger has made arrangements for a replacement goalkeeper should the sun shine.

The team has been working hard this week on the defensive side of their game but will not change their attitude to the way the game should be played. A good crowd is expected and the pitch has recovered well from the long dry period and the club believe there will not be a better surface throughout the Hellenic league and is a credit to the dedicated ground staff of Mervin Lacey, Keith Cameron and Ted Travell. The club eagerly await delivery of the new first team kit from Uhlsport but will play in last years kit for the current fixture and hope to have the new kit available for the derby against Winterbourne United on Bank Holiday Monday

hellenic league barry garanger tytherington rocksBarry (left) has made comment about future changes in the playing squad and the customary merry go round that takes place this time of year; "Whilst I am no different to other managers in trying to attract players to the Rocks, I certainly will not tell the world that I have signed a player before he has been training let alone seen a signing on form and I would like to let it known that key members of the team are committed to the club. Tytherington have been considered as minnows at our level of football in recent seasons but the foundations have been set both on and off the pitch for us to move forward considerably this season. Opposing managers should not take it as read that an approach for a Rocks player and an offer of money and 1st team football, that does not often materialise, will land them their target this season. My resolve to add some quality signings to an already sound squad has never been more directed in this my 6th season at the Rocks"

A lot of hard work has already been done to the training area and home dressing room with new flooring being supplied by new sponsor Carpets of Yate. Work now starts on the away and officials changing rooms and shower blocks.
