BADSHOT LEA NEWS

Rob Goldney Update - 16th March

Following the report of the RTA involving Rob Goldney. Badshot Lea Chairman, Mark Broad, has updated the situation.

" Rob is still in the Royal Berkshire Hospital where he has been making steady progress since the weekend. He has suffered a fractured sternum as well as some nasty cuts from the seat belt. He has had some internal damage to his bowel repaired and they are hoping to get him onto solids over the weekend"

It is hoped that Rob should be out by the middle of next week. Broad went onto say " I visited Rob last night and he was in good spirits. He is making steady progress and he is already targeting pre-season as his comeback. He seemed more concerned about being able to make it for the end of season trip to Spain in May!!!"

On the playing front Badshot Lea manager David Ford is delighted to have two former players back in the fold.

He is absolutely delighted to have secured the services of defender Jason Short after successfully putting in a Seven Day approach to high flying Combined Counties side, Camberley Town. Ford said " I am delighted that Jason has decided to rejoin us for the remainder of this season as we look to finish as high as we can in our first season at Step 5. I am also starting to plan ahead to next season and Jason can play a big part in our plans. He has been excellent for Camberley this season and played a major part in their successful FA Vase run in which they reached the last 16."

He played his first game last weekend against Pegasus Juniors.

Another to return is Bradley Smith , Ford has successfully secured the services of Smith from near neighbours Ash United of the Combined Counties League.

The manager explained " Bradley has been the leading scorer at the Lea since we joined the Hellenic League. He decided at the start of this season he wanted a change so he signed for Ash United. The travel seemed to play a part in his decision.Ford went onto say: "Bradley has again proved he is a goalscorer where he has netted over 20 times in the league for Ash United since the start of the season. I put in a formal Seven Day approach and I am pleased that he agreed to re-join us which will give me further forward options for the balance of this season and into next season".

Both players were in the squad for yesterdays fixture at Harrow Hill, which was postponed.

Goldney Injured in RTA - 10th March

Information received from Nicky Staszkiewicz, secretary of Sport Italia Premier side Badshot Lea advises that Rob Goldney, who has played more than 30 matches for the Farnborough based side was seriously injured in a road traffic accident over the weekend. It is understood Rob has suffered, at least, a broken sternum with the possibility of surgery regarding other aspects of injuries sustained.

All involved with the Hellenic League, wish the player a speedy and full recovery. This is Badshot's first season in the Premier Division and to say the least it has been a rollercoaster of a season.

Badshot Reserves Manager Taken Ill - 22nd February

Dick Hunt Manager of Badshot Lea second team suffered a heart attack on Thursday evening. The League is advised by club Secretary Nicky Staszkiewicz that, thankfully, Dick is recovering.

This has left the club in a degree of some chaos faced with two away games on Saturday but club officials hope to be able to sort things out. At this time we wish Dick a full and early recovery from his problem.

Foundations Laid To Build Rome - 23rd October

A conversation Brian King had with Mark Broad, Chairman of Badshot Lea in the past week included discussion regarding the on field discipline within the Sport Italia Hellenic League and that, in particular, of his club who seem to pick up 'Silly Bookings' almost every match.

So it was refreshing to receive an e-mail from Mark on Tuesday morning extolling the manner in which the Referee performed in the weekend fixture at Shortwood United and how the Badshot Lea players responded.

He said; "Even though we were on the end of a very heavy defeat I wanted to send something to you as you generally wouldn't expect to hear from a side commenting on a ref having just lost 7-1. The referee was excellent all afternoon and kept the game flowing, often excercising the advantage very well. One major point that I noticed was that he was constantly talking to both sets of players and explaining his decisions, and at one point I heard him say to a player 'I am trying to work with you this afternoon'. I found his performance and attitude all afternoon very refreshing".

Mark continued by saying; "I am determined to improve our discipline and this was a start but I know it is a long road, "Rome wasn't built in a day ". So although we lost heavily, to have no cautions in the game was a major achievement. After the match he told me to make sure that we got the players heads up as it wasn't a 7-1 result. We are under no illusions that we are in for an extremely difficult season on and off the pitch and I fully expect that we will have more difficult days than this. Hopefully we can get some of our half a dozen injured 1st team players back as soon as possible as this clearly had an effect on Saturday."

"Thanks for your continued support".
