Poacher Nunn Becomes ‘National Gamekeeper’ - 28th March

Adam Nunn who three years ago was a regular in Trowbridge Town’s Division One West team has been promoted onto the FA ‘National List of Assistant Referee’s’ for season 2009-2010.

Adam is just one of only a handful of Referee’s who have been offered this promotion for next season and he joins Premier and Football League official Lee Probert who also lives in Trowbridge. This is a tremendous achievement from the former Trowbridge Town club captain who only three years ago was playing Hellenic League football. Adam is on the line at Weymouth this weekend, live on Setanta Sports.

Trowbridge Town Youth Tournament In May - 13th March

Trowbridge Town have announced the dates for their 2009 Youth tournament. In a change to previous years Trowbridge Town have come up with a new initiative to help beat the credit crunch and make the tournament more accessible.

Instead of asking for the full entry fee up front they have decided to invite teams to secure their place with a £10 deposit. The remainder of the £20 fee will then be payable on the day.

Club Chairman Andy Mackinder said: "We hope this will make entering the tournament easier for Clubs.I hope people recognise that we are taking a bit of a risk but, in financially challenging times, we are looking to ease the burden on teams' pockets."

Event organiser Jo King is enthusiastic about this novel move. "We will see whether our idea finds favour with our friends in youth football by the numbers of entries we receive" she said.

The tournament will take place over the weekend of 23-24 May 2009. Under 7s, 9s, 11s and 13s will play on Saturday, with Under 8s, 10s, 12s and 14s taking to the field the following day. The Under 7s and Under 8s will play in a soccer festival with medals available to all those who take part. More details and those important entry forms can be found at the club Web Site (www.trowbridgetownfc.com) under the “Club News”. For further information please contact the Club by e-mail at info@torwbridgetownfc.com or phone the event organiser Jo King on 07545 172043.

Unlucky Bees - 7th November

Paul King said his side were unlucky to lose their SBJ Insurance Brokers Challenge Cup game at Tytherington Rocks, but said he was more concerned about The Bees’ faltering league campaign.

Trowbridge lost 2-1 with Tytherington taking the lead in the first half from a controversial penalty. Neil Grant equalised just before half time but 10 minutes from the end the home side scrambled a winner. King said: “Tytherington are a good team and they probably just deserved to win it. We had a penalty given against us that other referee’s wouldn’t have given. We’re not getting the rub of the green and that sums it up for us. But it’s not really going to affect our season in any way.”

Struggling Trowbridge face two daunting away trips in the Hellenic League Division One in the next two weekends. The Bees visit "big spending" Wootton Bassett Town tomorrow and travel to Malmesbury Victoria the following Saturday.

King said: “We’ve got some really hard games coming up. We’ve really got to step it up otherwise we’re going to be in all sorts of trouble.”

But the Trowbridge boss was keen to emphasise the positives of his team’s performances in recent times. He said: “Over the past few weeks we’ve played four tough games and we’ve competed against every single team. I can’t argue with the commitment the players are putting in.”

King was due to sign Westbury defender Allan Clarke before tomorrow’s game. The Woodmarsh boss has already brought in his third Bromham player of the season, Tommy Berryman, who will play in the reserves.

Influential midfielder Waleed Bakali (pictured) will miss tomorrow’s game against Wootton Bassett with knee ligament damage. Bakali is expected to be out for a month with the injury he sustained in the Wiltshire Senior Cup first round defeat to Bromham last month.

More Firepower - 6th October

Paul King is looking to add more firepower to his squad after a week of coming and goings at the FTL Futbol Hellenic League Division One West club.

King has lost centre forward Liam Brown to Corsham Town and Craig Fisher has also left Woodmarsh to follow Brown to the Toolstation League Premier Division club.

The Trowbridge boss is now hoping to turn the tables by giving Corsham seven days' notice of approach for forward Booker Woodford. Woodford (pictured) left Trowbridge for Corsham in the summer but King is hoping he can tempt him to return. King said: "I don't know if we'll get him but if you don't ask you never know."

The Bees manager has also made seven days' notice of approach for one of recent signing Tom Pang's former Wiltshire League Broham team-mates, Jamie Young, a midfielder and striker.

Three players made their debuts for Trowbridge in last week's 2-1 Hellenic League Cup victory over Premier Division Bicester Town. Pang scored both goals and there were also impressive displays from right sided midfielder Neil Grant, who played for Toolstation League Division One outfit Larkhall Athletic last season, and 16-year-old Declan Harrison, a product of the club's youth scheme.

King also gives tribute to the club's fans who have supported the club through a troubled start to the season. He was delighted to see a crowd of nearly 100 at last weekend's SBJ Insurance Brokers Challenge Cup game against Bicester, despite his team's slow start to the campaign. "Attendance this year has been as good as last season. The supporters have the right to criticise but they have been really positive towards the players and towards myself. They have been absolutely fantastic, which does make a difference."

Trowbridge Sign Teenage Striker - 29th September

Paul King has added to his squad by signing teenage striker Declan Harrison, the 16-year-old has not played senior football and he was at FC Chippenham Youth in the last campaign. Harrison has a history with his new club as he has also played for Trowbridge Wanderers and Trowbridge Town Youth in the past.

King also revealed he has brought in Frome Town goalkeeper Scott Armstrong on loan, Armstrong will play if Trowbridge want him to turn out and he is not needed by The Robins.

Cup Tonic? - 27th September

Struggling Trowbridge Town take a break from the Hellenic League Division One West this afternoon with a home game in the SBJ Insurance Brokers League Challenge Cup.

The team who finished fourth in the Division One West table last season have had an indifferent start this term, currently second from bottom in with four points from eight games.

Though manager Paul King (pictured) will not be expecting an easy ride today, with Premier Division Bicester Town being the opposition at Woodmarsh. A positive performance could be the kick start his side seek to improve their fortunes in forthcoming league challenges.

Michael Barnes is unavailable for the game as he has gone back to University.

Bid For Pang - 16th September

Trowbridge Town are bidding to sign prolific striker Tom Pang (pictured) from Wiltshire League outfit Broham.

Town coach Ade Hiscocks confirmed that the FTL Futbol Hellenic League First Division West club have made an approach for the Bromham hot-shot Tom Pang, who scored six goals in one Wiltshire League game against Westside this season.

Hiscocks said: "It will be great if we can get him in. He's young and can score goals, and players like that are very hard to come by."

Tough Test - 12th September

Trowbridge face a tough test tomorrow when they travel to Hellenic new boys Hardwicke AFC who have won every game so far in the FTL Futbol Hellenic League Division One West.

Trowbridge coach Ade Hiscocks, who managed the side in the absence of boss Paul King last Saturday, has asked the fans to be patient while the young team progress.

He said: "There will be improvement. We are a young side and each game will be a learning curve for the players. It's a big step up for some of them from the reserve team and it will just take time. The supporters will have to be a bit patient with the players as they learn what the league is all about."

On the fixture against Easington he added. "The scoreline was a bit flattering on Saturday - if we had taken our chances the score could have been different. We also had another blatant penalty waved away after one of our players was wrestled to the ground in the box. In the second half I put three up front to try and chase the game but we just couldn't take our chances."

King Appointed As Trowbridge Boss - 20th June

FTL Futbol Hellenic League Division One West Trowbridge Town have appointed Paul King as their new manager.

He takes over at the club from Paul Shanley, who left at the end of the season to manage Toolstation League First Division neighbours Bradford Town.

King, 39, has been manager of AFC Trowbridge Town Reserves for the past two seasons, guiding his team to a second-placed finish in the Bradford Building Supplies Trowbridge League Division One in the last campaign.

Though the new Trowbridge Town manager admits he expects a number of players to leave this summer, and says the club may have to go back before it goes forward.

Lewis Porter, Matt Penman and Dan Shanley look set to join former Trowbridge boss Paul Shanley at Bradford Town before the new campaign. Aaron Salter could join his brother Lee at Corsham Town while Nathan Flower is being chased by new Melksham Town boss Wayne Thorne.

King said: "We're losing so many players, it's going to be a tough job. Paul's done a fantastic job and with him leaving I think there will be an exodus of players. It's hard to follow that and it's going to be about rebuilding."

The new boss will have a better idea of the personnel he has to pick from when Trowbridge start pre-season training on Tuesday. He has been joined at Woodmarsh by assistants Lee Haywood, Andy Bonser and former Bradford Town man Mike Little, who King hopes will continue to play.

With a number of players looking set to leave and the move to the new ground at Bradley Road at a standstill, King will turn to young players at Woodmarsh. King said: "I think they want someone to come in and give all the youngsters the opportunities. With the connections I've got with the youth players, hopefully that will bring them forward. There's not much progression at Trowbridge in the way of the ground, hopefully they can sort it all out over the next couple of years."

"It may be a step back for a season or two but at the end of it we'll be a young team who are upwardly mobile. But it's firstly about trying to keep a stable team in the Hellenic League. I don't think there's any aspirations that they want to be league champions. I think we'll do okay and I'm looking forward to it."

Although Trowbridge's plans to move to a new ground at Bradley Road have not progressed in recent times, the club plan to formally merge with AFC Trowbridge Town Youth on Friday July 4 at 7.45pm. The meeting will take place at Trowbridge Cricket Club.

A statement on the club's website said: "Members will be asked to formally accept the new club constitution and elect the club officers. Existing members of both clubs are encouraged to attend this important meeting. There will also be a final meeting of the current Trowbridge Town committee at 7pm to pay tribute to those members stepping down and thus move on to the new set-up."

The committee meeting will be the last official involvement of former chairman John Fitchen, who is expected to chair the meeting at 7pm.

King said: "We're going to be one club which is the best thing about it. We'll have a large turnover of players and we'll be able to give a few players the chance to prove they can play at this level."
