HARDWICKE AFC NEWS

Hardwicke Resign After One Season - 10th August

Following their second successive Championship winning season Hardwicke AFC announced on Thursday night that they would not be able to continue in the FTL Futbol Hellenic League Division One West.

Since manager Warren Evans stepped down due to work commitments the club has been rocked by players deciding to play for other clubs and with less than half of last years squad available for last week’s 2 - 1 defeat against Northern Senior side Longlevens and Saturdays postponement of an arranged match at Pegasus through lack of players this has finally convinced the committee that it was impossible to continue at this level of football

Chairman Mathew Griffiths discussed the matter with League General Manager Brian King and verbally advised the decision to withdraw the first team from the Hellenic League Division One West on Thursday. This, of course, is subject to formal notification from the club which at time of issuing this statement has not been received in the League Office. This makes the situation more difficult in the knowledge that no contact has been made with Hardwicke’s fixtured opponents for Tuesday evening, Wootton Bassett Town, who have already incurred costs for the potential fixture.

Hellenic League Warren EvansEvans Steps Down As Hardwicke Manager - 13th July

FTL Futbol Hellenic League Division One West Champions Hardwicke AFC are looking for a new manager after Warren Evans (pictured) stepped down on Thursday evening. Evans has been offered work in Dorset which was too good an opportunity for him to turn down.

Hardwicke were struggling at the wrong end of the Gloucestershire County League table when former Cinderford Town & Tuffley Rovers player Evans took over but after steering the club away from relegation he went on to turn the club into one of the best in the County. With his links to Gloucester City Youth and his ability of signing good local players Evans steered Hardwicke to the County League title & Les James League Cup in his first full season. Narrowly missing out on the GFA Trophy against Bitton in the final.

With promotion to the Hellenic League assured Evans again waved his magic wand and added more strength to his already skilled squad. Last season proved to be Evans & Hardwicke’s greatest ever season with the team winning the Division 1 West title by a massive 15 points. Losing only 2 of their 32 league matches. Evans would like to thank all the players and officials at Hardwicke for giving him his greatest ever moments in football and said what a difficult decision it was to leave the club. Chairman Matthew Giffiths added that Hardwicke were indebted to the hard work Evans has done in getting such a great team to Hardwicke. Warren is passionate about football and this sometimes gets him into trouble with officials & opposing teams but no-one can ever doubt his enthusiasm and knowledge of the game. He will be sadly missed by everyone at the club.

Applications are now being accepted for the position of First team manager for the coming season. Please contact Chairman Matthew Griffiths on 07815 869510 or matthew262@btinternet.com
