Shortwood Continue Vase Quest - 22 January
James Singh was the hero as Shortwood edged past Enfield to book their place in the Fifth Round of The FA Carlsberg Vase.
It was a tight and tense match and it was settled early on by striker Singh, whose crisp finish was enough to end Enfield's cup dreams.
Shortwood almost fell behind inside the opening minute as Enfield hit the bar following a quick break and the Gloucestershire side escaped unscathed. Enfield 1983, who overcame stiff opposition in Long Buckby AFC in the previous round, began the brighter of the two teams but couldn't find the breakthrough early on.
A crowd of 199 was in attendance at Meadowbank and the majority of them were on their feet on 17 minutes when Singh opened the scoring. The Shortwood striker fashioned an opening and drove the ball home to put the hosts ahead. Christian Beaupierre stood no chance in the Enfield goal as Shortwood responded to the visitors' pressure with a goal of their own.
In a tight match, neither side could find a way through in the second half as Shortwood held on for a memorable win.
The remaining Hellenic League club's in the 4th Round took their bow from the competition. Binfield took a hammering from Tividale 7-1, with "Dale's" Matthew Jukes claiming the match ball after his treble against the Berkshire-based club.
In the two other Hellenic represented games, Old Woodstock Town lost 0-2 to Bethnall Green with Reading Town going out 2-3 to Larkhall Athletic.

Hellenic League Results Officer - 18 December
After three years as Results Officer Mike Markham is stepping, Mike handled the Hellenic Results well during this period.
This is not an easy post to hold and operate with full integrity, most of you will know Mike as a keen supporter of Highworth Town and wonder how he manages to get the time to watch his team, both home and away and collate the Result information. The demand placed upon the Results Officer is ever increasing and was causing conflicts with Mike’s other activities. Mike agreed to continue until the HL found a replacement, and we thank Mike for his work and wish him well in the future.
Clive Webb is to take over from Mike, with effect from Monday 19 December.

Impressed With Uhlsport - 14 December
Clanfield Manager Peter Osborne was very impressed by his visit to the Uhlsport factory in Germany and says that Hellenic League clubs have much to look forward to from the League Sponsors range for next season.
Osborne who is Manager of Giles Sports in Carterton was amongst a number of Uhlsport retail distributors personnel who travelled over to Germany as guests of Uhlsport and the trip included a conducted tour of the factory.
Osborne commented. "Two things particularly impressed me. Firstly the care taken within the factory to ensure the quality of the product and secondly the scope and quality of the new range now in production. Clubs should be very pleased with the end product. Managers (including me), bench personnel and players should strive to accrue as much credit as possible for the new range. It will be well worth it"
Osborne, who is not averse to second helpings, was also impressed by the German food which he described as "Good and plentiful". The Party also took in a Bundasliga fixture in an excellent weekend.

FA Vase Third Round Draw - 21 November
Depending on the outcome of replay matches taking place this week, it could be a guarantee that at least two Uhlsport Hellenic Football League teams progress to Round Four.
Binfield who replay the fixture against Ringmer at Hill Farm Lane tonight (19.45 kick off) would be receiving Premier Division counterparts Flackwell Heath on December 3 at Hill Farm, if the Moles find success tonight.
Wantage will need to get past Alton Town at Alfredian Park tomorrow (19.45 kick off) to book a visit to Division One West high flyers Old Woodstock Town.
Highworth will be hosting Cornish club Falmouth Town, if they acheive a positive result against Willand Rovers at High Elms tomorrow night (19.45 kick off).
Shortwood United and Reading Town have already booked their places in the third round both against Wessex League clubs. The Wood travel to Bremerton Heath Harlequins and Reading host Cowes Sports.

FA Vase Fixtures - 17 November
Away form is the key for the majority Hellenic sides in this weekend's FA Vase games - Alton Town v Wantage Town; Bishops Sutton v Shortwood United; Ilfracombe Town v Winterbourne United ; Littlehampton Town v Flackwell Heath; Ringmer v Binfield : Willand Rovers v Highworth Town. Old Woodstock Town play Witney Town at North Leigh on Friday night, so not necessarily a home advantage for either side in that game.
Only Reading Town v Erith Town features as a home draw for an Hellenic League side.
Good luck to all the Hellenic sides competing in the FA Carlsberg Vase Second Round.

FA Vase 2nd Round Proper Draw - 25 October
The draw for the second round of the Carlsberg FA Vase and a place in the last 64 certainly did not do Uhlsport Hellenic League clubs many favours with just two out of the nine successful clubs in last Saturday's first round ties receiving a home tie in the second round.
After disposing of Carterton 2-1, Witney Town face another 'local derby' when they travel to face Old Woodstock Town. Premier leaders Flackwell Heath travel to Littlehampton whilst Shortwood face Western League side Bishops Sutton. Highworth Town are also on the road and travel to play Western League opposition in the form of High flying Willand Rovers from Devon.

Movember - 25 October
For the month of November Hellenic Referee Neil Morrison will be taking part in MO-vember to raise money for charity.
Robin, who is one of Neil's best mates, is unfortunately currently undergoing treatment for prostate cancer. Neil has agreed to join in and raise as much money as he can by growing a tache! Neil is donating his match fees for the month of November and through sponsorship he hopes to raise as much by way of donations as possible. He is doing this in conjunction with his former Sunday League side that he played for along with his friend Robin.
If you would like to donate to this fantastic cause you can do so by following the link mobro.co/neilmorrison

Joint Venture For The Future - 19 October
In recent seasons Uhlsport Hellenic League members Wokingham & Emmbrook FC and Woodley Town FC have both made strides within the FA National League System. Wokingham & Emmbrook FC play in the Premier Division at Step 5 and Woodley Town FC in Division One East at Step 6.
The clubs have much in common with both being situated within Wokingham Borough, FA Charter Standard clubs and operating successive youth sections while faced with similar challenges to not only be able to continue to operate at their current levels but to also progress.
By maintaining their momentum through collaboration, both clubs are seeking to unlock their potential through the vision of "A Team for the Borough!".
Why have the clubs decided to work together?
Both experience a lack of facilities in terms of pitches and training facilities while faced with the need to comply with FA Ground Grading requirements.
To ensure sustainability by meeting the challenges of attracting and keeping players and operational costs. Failure to meet these challenges could led to decline and dying.
Release benefits of providing better facilities for players while giving the community and borough a facility to be proud off and which can accommodate mixed sport.
The time is right for a fresh start as both clubs have no legacy to be held back by.
The next steps:
Nurture the relationship of Wokingham Borough Council, Wokingham Town Council and Woodley Town Council.
Engage and sell the benefits of the vision to the community and football authorities.
Contact Development Agencies.

Sian International - 29 September
Oxfordshire referee Sian Piret flew out to Serbia having been called up by UEFA to officiate in an international tournament.
The 30-year-old, from Marston, who is the county's senior female match official, will act as an assistant referee in Group 7 of the Women's Under 17 mini tournament. Despite having only qualified in 2007, Piret becomes the first female Oxfordshire FA referee to receive such an appointment. "I was totally taken aback," she said. "The FA called me out of the blue and said they wanted to send me. It was the last thing I expected." The tournament is a qualifying stage for the UEFA Under 17's finals next summer, and will see Piret officiate three matches involving Denmark, Greece, Serbia and Turkey. Piret, who works at the Churchill Hospital, refereed the 2010 OFA Women's Cup final between Oxford City and Oxford United. She was also 4th official at last season's Oxfordshire Senior Cup final.
I didn't start refereeing until five seasons ago," she said. "I would never have believed that I could get to this level so quickly. "I was a useless player, and I now referee on the Uhlsport Hellenic League, a much higher level than I could ever have played at." She will be on the line for the Denmark v Greece match today, followed by Denmark v Serbia on Saturday and Turkey v Denmark on Tuesday. Piret added: "There aren't many Level 4 female referees, so that stood me in good stead. I'm really looking forward to it."

OFA Awards - 18 September
At the annual Oxfordshire FA Awards Evening held recently two Hellenic Referee's were to the fore receiving the 'Doug Watts Young Referee of the Year' Award.
The recipients being Greg Kornasiewicz and Richard Beveridge. Both Greg and Richard were promoted onto the 'Contributory' system as assistant referee's this season and are on the Hellenic League Referee's List. The two recipients could not be seperated when an OFA Ref Comm panel decided on the winner of the award for the past season, consequently a joint award was made. Richard will hold the Shield until March 2012 when he will hand it over to Greg.
Well done to both guys - a well deserved award.
Rob King, Chairman of Carterton FC was also a deserving winner collecting the 'Volunteer of the Year' award. Rob is the mainstay of football in Carterton and is able to turn his hand to any aspect of involvement within football. As well as being Chairman he is also Football Secretary of the Hellenic teams, is a qualified therapist, barman and can even turn his hand to tea making. Rob spends about 30 hours working on behalf of the club and holds down a full time job as well.
Another well deserved award winner.

Hellenic Referee Appointed To UEFA Tournament- 14 September
The League has been advised that Sian Piret, a Level 4 Referee on the Hellenic League has been selected by the Football Association to officiate as an Assistant Referee in Serbia from 28th September till 5th October on a UEFA U17's (Women's) mini-tournament, which is a qualifying stage for the UEFA U17's Finals next summer.
Sian will operate as an assistant to Amy Fearn with another assistant appointed from another country. This is obviously a great appointment for Sian, who is in her first season as a Level 4 referee and is an achievement which shows the high esteem that Sian is held by the FA. I have sent Sian a congratulatory message.

Tier 4 Student Registrations
The FA urges all Clubs to verify the credentials of Tier 4 students/migrants who may have International Clearance certificates granted but who may not be able to play in what is deemed to be professional football in a professional league where clubs have one or two contract professionals. Under these circumstances, they may be restricted to recreational football only. The FA recognise there may be legal challenges but neither the FA nor the League are preventing participation. Clubs should seek guidance from the UK Border Agency on a special dedicated number – 0300 123 4699. Clubs found guilty of employing Tier 4 migrants illegally may be liable for a fine of up to £10,000 per illegal worker.
