Carpenter Goes Home - 26th August

On Friday, 22nd August, Pegasus Junior’s grounds-man, Pete Carpenter, was released from the Great Western Hospital in Swindon to his home and into the care of his general practitioner after suffering a heart failure whilst at the Fairford Town and Pegasus Junior’s fixture on Tuesday 19th August. The fixture was abandoned by the match referee with 88 minutes played, a decision on the final result is awaited by the HL Competitions Committee.

Peter tried to convince Pegasus Secretary Chris Wells that he is now better looking!, however, Chris did confirm he is in a better condition than when he saw him prior to the arrival of the ambulance at Fairford Town FC. Peter is unable to confirm how long he will be out of action but, is of the opinion that he will be able to continue his relationship with his mower and the Old School Lane grass in a week or so. However, it is believed his doctor may have another view on that.

Peter has asked that his gratitude to those who assisted him on the evening and all that have enquired about his condition expressing him a speedy recovery. At present he gets tired very quickly and has asked that visitors do not call on him unless contact by telephone has been made previously.

Pegasus Junior’s officials paid thanks to their Fairford colleagues and in particular therapist Kevin Thomas for their assistance on the night.

Pegasus Play at Wembley - 17th August

Monday 11th August 2008 saw Pegasus Juniors under 10 team played where many professional footballers have not played, Wembley Stadium.

Selected as the team to represent Herefordshire CFA the boys managed by Mick Panniers, with coaches Andy Kalwaites and Peter Twigg had the time of their lives. Walking out of the players tunnel onto the pitch they were greeted by Sir Geoff Hurst, Sir Trevor Brooking and England manager Fabio Capello. They then played their game on the hallowed turf before walking up the steps to the Royal Box to collect their medals.

The mini football festival was organised by the FA in association with McDonald's one of its sponsorship partners with over fifty teams competing. Games were played at Northwick Park under the shadow of the now famous Arch before moving to Wembley Stadium in the afternoon where they played in front of their coaches and parents. Although no scores were kept the lads did not concede a goal in any of the matches and were a credit to Herefordshire Football Association, Pegasus Juniors Football Club and their parents. It was an experience they will never forget.
