WINTERBOURNE UNITED F C NEWS

Winterbourne United At Oaklands - 26th August

Winterbourne United together with Roman Glass from the Toolstation Western League One, have secured a lease agreement with the Gloucestershire Football Association to use 'Oaklands Park' as their home venue from 2011-2012 season.

The move will give both clubs a ground that not only secures a place at Level 6 but offers the chance to progress even further.

Robyn Maggs commented."As Winterbourne United's chairman, I have to say I am thrilled at the prospects now facing the club after many years of planning refusals left us in stalemate and doubt. Over the years the club has developed and progressed steadily off and on the field. I would like to think that our standing in local football has earned us the distinction of at least being worthy candidates to be new tenants at GFA HQ and subsequently worthy new tenants. The club now boasts facilities that offer players and parents with their youngsters the opportunity to play football at Winterbourne United from U6 in the Avon Youth League through to the Midland Premier Youth League and Gloucestershire County Youth League at U16 & U18 respectively, through to the seniors in the Bristol & District, Bristol Premier Combination, Uhlsport Hellenic League and now potentially all the way to Southern League. We have sides at levels to suit everyone and everyone is welcome."

"Our ongoing plans was part of how we attracted Mark Williams and his young squad to the club. The boys are full of talent and will prove it soon enough in their own right, however I will be ever grateful to those who stuck around players of the experience of players like Mark Nash, Neil Ward, Sam Vile, James Mainstone and Chris Iles is vital and whose loyalty makes me humble. To those who have left for pastures new I wholeheartedly say good luck and thank you for some great times and the memories to go with the medals in our cabinet. Our changing room door will always be open. As for the moment; we are finding our feet, which will take a bit longer than envisaged with new faces showing up at each training session. It may well take us this season to get it together but the future is definitely red."

Maggs continued. "I would like to ask if anyone out there would be interested in helping the club out with the administrative side of things. Are you a player who would like to stay in the game in some way and put something back. You might come as a bit of an eye opener to discover that the clean kit and dressing room, marked pitch, etc etc you walk into every weekend was not done by fairies. Finding moaners is the simplest thing finding players and managers can sometimes be akward but finding willing volunteers is a nightmare. We are generally a happy bunch at WUFC so if you would like to find out more please feel free to contact me"

"Bourne" Looking to Youth - 2nd August

With the season only two weeks away now, Winterbourne United manager Nick Tanner says "I'ts disappointing to lose Jimmy Potts to Tytherington." However the club is making new signings and retaining many players.

Tanner continues." This is the worst time for any manager, especially ones with no money like ourselves. Unfortunately loyalty went out of the non league game many years ago,and in my opinion decisions are made for the wrong reasons, but thats life at this level."

"Luckily we've got a group of young players that have signed for the club. Keeper Josh Stawrowski, defenders Alex Tanner. Josh Graham,Mitch Davenport, midfielders Harry Greenbury, Geraint Willaims, Greg Stutt plus exciting striker Ashley Knight is chomping at the bit to play for the club, so everything's beginning to take shape".

"I'm delighted to also announce experienced Keeper Tom Shepperd has returned to the club (although he's on holiday for the start of the season) and James Mainstone, Sam Vile, Mark Nash and Grant Gordon have re signed from last season. I am just awaiting news from a couple of new signings and then we will be ready to go".

"Bourne" Team Up With Youth Outfit - 10th June

Winterbourne United have teamed up with the successful Almondsbury UWE Under-18s outfit in a concerted attempt to resurrect the Uhlsport Hellenic League club's flagging fortunes.

Winterbourne boss Nick Tanner already looking forward to his first pre-season at the Parkside Avenue helm, is determined to rekindle the glory days following an "unacceptable" last Division One West campaign, which saw them floundering around the lower reaches of the table for most of the term.

Former Liverpool and Bristol Rovers defender Tanner said: "Mark Williams and his Almondsbury UWE under-18s squad are coming to Winterbourne next season. ”I have known Mark for a few years now and I know all about his enthusiasm for his players and football in general. It really is a win-win situation for Winterbourne, as far as I am concerned, to bring Mark and his squad to the club. For starters, they were league and cup double winners last season and that says a lot about their strength and abilities. We will work closely on all aspects, including team selection, and strive hard to get Winterbourne back to where it belongs. We have talked long and hard about the way forward and believe we can take the club to the next level by developing the young players and blooding them in the senior squads."

Tanner knows he has a battle on his hands lifting a club that won two Hellenic League titles in recent years, only to suffer a largely dismal 2009/10 campaign before they staged a late-season rally under his stewardship. "Winterbourne have enjoyed great success in recent times and last season was not acceptable, which applied throughout the club," he said. "Things have to change and now is a great time to start. We still have some good players who know how to win Hellenic League titles. They will be invaluable next season, playing alongside the youngsters. Mark and I will bring, as a partnership, passion, commitment and a structured coaching and training programme that will serve the club well for many years to come. Now we need to take things a lot more seriously with regards training and how we approach games, and make a challenge for the title next year. Most of Mark's squad are made up of South Gloucestershire lads anyway and we want to build on that by attracting the best local youngsters to Winterbourne and give them a genuine opportunity to play at a high level."
