Better Performance Sought - 12 January 2012

Woodstocks' joint managers are looking for a far better team performance this weekend against Thatcham Town Reserves in the Uhlsport Hellenic Supplementary Challenge Cup

Old Woodstock Town lost by three goals to one at Lydney last weekend. Playing at Waterside Park on Saturday, Thatcham's large, and very flat, football pitch should suit the OWT style of play. Now having a full squad to choose from, James Lambert is back from Dubia, plus Liam Godin and Ali Robinson return from injury, the managers look to put the last few touches in place for the FA Vase Fourth Round tie against Essex Senior League outfit Bethnal Green United. The FA Vase fixture is being played on Saturday 21 January at the North Leigh FC, Eynsham Road, ground.

Squad for Thatcham: Darren Booker, Rob Johnson ,Dan Monk ,Danny Robert, Gavin Kidd, James Lambert, Chris Gilks, Murray Nichols, Danny Green, Liam Godin, Danny Bone, Ali Robinson, Jason Prpa, Lee Prpa

This is followed by a second home game on New Years Eve at home against Purton (12.00pm ko), to end the festive season Old Woodstock Town are away to Easington Sports on 2 January.

Positives Taken - 15 December

Though disappointed with last weekends 2 - 1 defeat by Tytherington Rocks, Old Woodstock Town management will not be dwelling on the negatives but take the positives instead.

Especially the players commitment and togetherness after being reduced to ten men. New College Academy are the opponents at New Road for this weekend's Uhlsport Hellenic Football League Division One West fixture (kick off 2pm). Joint managers John and Eddie now have injury worries over Darren Booker and Liam Godin, so will be calling on Ryan Watts from the Reserves. Marley Joseph will be available after completing a suspension, though Ali Robinson is suspended and Craig Robinson injured.

League Concentration - 9 December

After the great result for Old Woodstock Town in the FA Vase last weekend it's now back to league action before the next round of the prestigious trophy competition in late January.

Tomorrow's game just as important to the club in Division One West against leaders Tytherington Rocks. Woodstock are in second place nine points behind the Rocks, though with three games in hand on the leaders. A win at west country Rocks tomorrow will be a massive bonus.

The joint managers are standing by the squad from last weekend, so new signing Ryan Wyatt will be playing in goal for the reserves against Kidlington, due to the good performances of young keeper Darren Booker. Ali Robinson is suspended, Marley Joseph is serving the last game of his suspension, Craig Robinson still out injured.

Old Woodstock Town player's management and committee are now looking forward to the game against Hellenic League Premier Division Champions Wantage Town. As a team and club we are looking forward to the challenge"

Whelan add his encouragement. "Come on Old Woodstock Town let's have a great game and result."

OWT Back To League Action - 24 November

After a very good win in the FA Vase, Old Woodstock Town are back to league football action on Saturday at home to Brimscombe & Thrupp.

Joint manager Eddie Nix commented on recent performances. "We cannot afford to keep making schoolboy errors which results in giving goals away, then setting up the fight back like we had last weekend. Great for the crowd but not the management, but against a side like Brimscombe & Thrupp on Saturday they will not give us chances to get back into the game. But saying that, the team is still putting in very good performance's with lots of attitude and commitment. This weekend in the league we need to get back to winning ways and get three points to keep the pressure on the teams around us. So come on lads let's put another long run together".

Manager's Eddie and John were very impressed with new young Goalkeeper Darren Booker making his first appearance for the first team last weekend and stand by him and rest of the team that beat Witney Town in The FA Vase game, with the exception of Marley Joseph who is suspended.

Squad: Darren Booker, Rob Johnson, Dan Monk, Dan Robert ,Gavin Kidd, James Lambert, Chris Gilks, Murray Nichols, Danny Green, Liam Godin, Danny Bone, Ali Robinson, Jason Prpa, Michael Spaull

Another Vase Opportunity - 17 November

Old Woodstock Town Management and Players are looking forward to tomorrow night's (Friday 18 November) FA Vase fixture against Witney Town.

danny bone football hellenic league woodstock townThe all Hellenic League FA Carlsberg Vase Second Round game takes place at North Leigh's Eynsham Hall ground, conveniently situated on the A4095 halfway between Woodstock and Witney. So it should draw a reasonable crowd of spectators from the two clubs, and being a Friday night 7.45pm kick off it is a game that will attract neutral spectators to see who comes out on top in this meet between teams featuring near the top of Division One West and near the bottom of the Premier table. Woodstock overcame Premier Division opposition in the previous round of The Vase, going through in an exciting 4-3 victory against Abingdon Town.

With top goal scorer Danny Bone getting over the injury he picked up from last weekends game at Cirencester, Old Woodstock Town will have a full squad to choose from and will be looking to carry on from the second half performance at Thame United in the Oxon Senior Cup on Tueday night.

With hard work and commitment from the players things are starting to look better for Old Woodstock Town Reserves on the field.

Spoiled For Choice - 19 October

The OWT Management team should have a full squad to choose from this week so it's going to make it very difficult to pick only 15 from 18 players.

Eddie and John hope to have goalkeeper Jeff Simmonds back this week who missed last Saturday's victory, in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup. The joint managers, and team, are looking forward to this weekends challenge of the FA Vase against Premier Division Abingdon Town. Happy Managers!! - 12 October

Old Woodstock Town came back with a great win in the league this week against Brimscombe and Thrupp after their defeat in the Cup.

It was a really good team performance, very hard first half which ended at 0-0, came out fighting in the 2nd half, raised our tempo with quick passing movement between 2 or 3 players which resulted in Dan Bone scoring the first goal. Sloppy bit of play ended with us losing the ball but we brought it back with our 2nd goal also scored by Dan Bone - well done Dan! 3rd goal came from a very good bit of wing play by Liam Godin and a great cross onto the head of Dan Green which resulted in a very good 3-1 win! MOTM performance this week by Murray Nicholls.

Also some more good news this week, coming back from a long injury is Jason Prpa who had 45 minutes with the reserves and came out unscathed, he will be added to the first team squad this week. Looking forward to the challenge ahead this Saturday where we have Carterton in the Oxfordshire Senior cup. Managers Eddie Nix and John Prpa commented; "We are very happy with the progress so far this season, long may it continue, with a little more hard work there is no reason why something might not happen".

New Journey For Woodstock - 5 October

Old Woodstock Town travel on Saturday 8th October to new boys Brimscombe & Thrupp in League Division One West.

Joint Manager's Eddie Nix and John Prpa stay with the same team that lost to Easington Sports last Saturday in a penalty shoot out after a TEN goal feast in the Bluefin Insurance Challenge Cup. Eddie Nix was disappointed with the team last week for giving away far too many silly goals. So now it's back to league action away to new boys Brimscombe & Thrupp and the team needs to get back to winning ways quickly to maintain top spot in the Division.
