Bluefin Challenge Cup

Woodley Town put up a creditable performance against Premier Division opponents, Shortwood United going down 2-1. All the scoring took place inside the first ten minutes with Chris Mortlock and an own goal for Shortwood being sandwiched by a goal from Woodley Town’s Carl Sims.

Hellenic Supplementary Cup

In their 2nd Round tie, Brimscombe & Thrupp and visitors Chalfont Wasps found goals at a premium. No scoring after 90 minutes, a goal each followed in the second period of extra time with Jonathan Peacock scoring for Brimscombe and Tom Bayle equalising at the death for Chalfont. Brimscombe and Thrupp prevailed 5-4 in the penalty shootout. The day’s other 2nd Round tie saw Abingdon United Reserves win 2-1 away at Finchampstead with Aaron Andrews and Chris Baker on target for Abingdon United Reserves. Alex Gibson netted the reply for Finchampstead. In a 1st Round tie, Premier Division Ascot United easily overcame Lambourn Sports from Division One East 4-1 with goals from Jonathan Bennett, Zac Spencer and a double from Lee Boon. Ben Matthews replied for Lambourn Sports.

Premier Division

Surprise result of the day saw Binfield trounced at home 1-5 by Reading Town in front of a crowd of 127 with Michael Bartley (2), Jamie Piercy, Richard Witt and an OG the scorers for Reading Town. James Suarez netted Binfield’s sole reply. Oxford City Nomads had the chance to close the gap on Ardley who were not playing this weekend. They left it late with goals in the last two minutes from Reece Fleet and Albi Skendi giving the Nomads a 2-1 win over Bracknell Town. Ben Knight had scored earlier for Bracknell. Fairford Town went down narrowly at home to Abingdon Town. Dan Bailey and Richard Williams scored for Fairford. Mark Janes (2) and Player Manager Chris Fontaine scored for Abingdon Town. Flackwell Heath beat Wantage Town 2-1 with goals from Nathan Poulton and Lee Thompson. Graham Edney replied for Wantage Town. Highworth Town convincingly beat Cheltenham Saracens 5-0 with goals from Richie Saunders (2) Matt Bennett (2) and Rory Sproule. Slimbridge edged Holyport 1-0 with another goal from the dependable Marvyn Roberts. Thame United beat Henley Town 4-3 in a thriller with goals from James Faulkner, Nik Rhodes (2) and an 89th minute winner from Alex Stewart. Scorers for Henley were David Hoar, Ahmed El – Amir and Dauda Fofanah. Witney Town slumped to a 0-2 home defeat by Wokingham & Embrook whose goals were scored by Sam Whiting and Luke Lee.

One West

Shock result of the day and the season saw runaway leaders Tytherington Rocks comprehensively beaten 2-6 at home by a rampant Winterbourne United. This being a second consecutive league defeat for the previously invincible Rocks. Two goals apiece for Jack Pitcher and Ben Dowdell together with goals for Sam Vile and Liam Barrett where too much for ‘The Rocks’ whose replies came from Jason Wood and Toby Colbourne. Carterton appear to be turning the corner with a second win on the bounce, this time a 5-1 win over fellow strugglers Malmesbury Victoria. An own goal set Carterton on their way plus two goals from Jason Francis and further goals from Josh Harris and Adam Lee. Ed Wilkins scored a late reply for Malmesbury. Mark Odom scored the only goal of the match as Clanfield took the points at Easington Sports. Headington Amateurs put six past Hook Norton without reply. On target for Amateurs with two goals each were Luke Cuff and Aftab Hafiz with Liam Morbey and Jay Hill weighing in with further goals. New College recorded a 2-0 win over Cirencester Town with goals from Giorgio Wrona and Josh Gregory. Trowbridge Town went down 1-0 at home to Old Woodstock Town with Lee Prpa scoring the goal.

One East

Highmoor Ibis continue to lead the Division having a comfortable 4-0 win over fellow promotion rivals Newbury courtesy of goals from Ian Griffin, Jamal Forde Small, Jordan Brown and Anthony Alleyne. Chinnor travelled to Penn & Tylers and won 3-0 with goals from Jon Ayres, Gary Marshall and Ryan Chapman. Thatcham Town beat Milton United 4-2 with goals from Tom Browne, David Cameron and two from Shaun Thorp. No details of the Milton United goal scorers were provided for this report.

FA Carlsberg Vase – 5th Round
Shortwood United kept the Hellenic flag flying with a convincing 3-0 win over Northern League opponents, Ashington to earn a place in the last eight of the FA Vase. Shortwood flew out of the blocks and were two up inside ten minutes with goals from John Cant and Kevin Slack. Tim Haddock put the game to bed early in the 2nd half to send the sizable away support contemplating a very long journey home. Shortwood now face Herne Bay at Meadowbank in the quarter finals.

Premier Division
Ardley United consolidated their position at the top of the Premier with a 5-3 win over Wokingham & Emmbrook, Ben Thomas (2), Matt Brandish, Ryan Brooks and an own goal were the scorers for Ardley, Matt Jones with two and Luke Lee replying for Wokingham. Oxford City Nomads were held 1-1 at home by Reading Town with Conor McDonagh scoring for the Nomads and Jamie Piercy equalising for Reading. Highworth Town went down 4-2 at Abingdon Town. Goals from Rory Sproule and Sean McKeon were not enough to match goals for Abingdon Town from Mark Janes (2) Jamie Mundy and Daryl Harris. Ascot United and Thame United drew 1-1 Luke Seldon scored for Ascot and Mitchell Meredith saved the day for Thame with a last minute penalty. Cheltenham Saracens beat struggling Witney Town 3-0 with goals from Joe Donaghue, Michael Rhodes and Jamie Hammond. Holyport were beaten 2-1 at home by Binfield. Lee Jerrum scored for Holyport and Ian Davies twice for Binfield. Fairford Town recorded a 3-0 win at Kidlington with goals from Charlie Grabe (2) and Richard Williams. Shrivenham and Henley Town drew 2-2 with goals for Shrivenham from Paul Sanders and Steve Robertson, Adam Jeffrey and Chris Ovenden replied for Henley. Slimbridge narrowly overcame Flackwell Heath 1-0 with a goal from Marvyn Roberts. Wantage beat bottom side Bracknell Town, goals from Gavin Jones (2) Jack Daly and Graham Edney.

One West
Surprise result of the day in One West saw Tytherington Rocks lose 2-1 at Brimscombe & Thrupp. John Dalton scored twice for Brimscombe with Justin Bishop replying for the Rocks. Carterton recorded a welcome 4-2 win at Cirencester Town with two goals from Jamie Macdonagh and a goal each for Chris Mills and Stuart Grant, Aidan Bennett and George Williams replied for Cirencester. Clanfield at last recorded their first home win of the season beating luckless Trowbridge Town 4-0 with two goals from Robbie Harrington and an own goal. Malmesbury Vics fell 3-1 at home to three late goals from Easington’s Shaun Lambourne, Tom Foley and Andrew Stidder. Chris Salt had earlier opened the scoring for Malmesbury. Old Woodstock Town got back to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Lydney Town, both goals coming in the first ten minutes from Jamie Prpa and Daniel Monk. Winterbourne United beat Headington Amateurs 3-1 with goals from Liam Barrett, Ben Dowdell and Jack Pitcher. Shaun Jacobs replied for Headington. Wootton Bassett Town beat Hook Norton with Matt Bown scoring the only goal.

One East
Highmoor Ibis continue to put daylight between themselves and the chasing pack recording a 3-0 win at Lambourn Sports with two goals from Ian Griffin and a goal from Jordan Brown. Chalfont Wasps similarly beat Penn and Tylers Green 3-0 with goals from Daniel Duncan, Tom Bayle and Simon Williams. Chinnor’s good run continued with a 2-1 win over Finchampstead. Ryan Chapman and Mark Jones were on target for Chinnor with Chris Hollis replying for Finchampstead. Hungerford Town won a close match 3-2 beating Thatcham Town. Lee Hamilton scored all three Hungerford goals, Thatcham responded through Matt Byrne and Shaun Thorp. Letcombe lost 2-1 at home to Abingdon United. Adam Bruce opened the scoring for Letcombe but goals from Drew Fowler and Chris Baker saw Abingdon claim the points. Maidenhead United went down by the odd goal in five to Didcot Town. Kyle Lucas and Sam Lock scored to cancel out a 2-0 Didcot lead acquired with goals from the evergreen Lee Newport and 17 year old Matt Hardwick. Lewis Noble, another 17 year old, popped up with the winner for Didcot two minutes from time. Milton United and Newbury shared the points in a 2-2 draw. The Milton goals came from Ieuan Morgan and an own goal. Newbury’s goals were scored by Jamie Green and Jason Peters
