The last two games have seen Jay Sauntson make a welcome return to the Malvern Town back-line after he recovered from injury.
“I am absolutely buzzing to be back,” said the robust and no-nonsense defender. “It was a very frustrating time for me sat watching the lads; I just wanted to be out there with them. It was sort of bitter-sweet in a way, though, as they have been playing absolutely top-notch and winning games, so it’s been enjoyable to watch!"
“I think the game at Hereford Lads Club was a bit of a tougher test, but again for large parts of the game we looked dangerous and created a lot of chances. The game probably could have gone either way what with them having a penalty in the last minute, but 3-3 was probably a fair result in the end."
“We followed it up with a return to winning ways against Cirencester Town Development last weekend. As a group we were disappointed with our first half showing, but we knew what we needed to do after the break to correct it and we went on to dominate possession and add four goals to our tally to run out 6-1 winners."
“We can now take this positive momentum into Saturday’s game at Clanfield 85. For me, I would fancy us against anyone in this League on our day, but we know that this one will be a tough test against a physical side. To be fair, we’ve not played too many physical opponents since we left the West Midlands (Regional) League, but we have the players who can handle this and our experiences in recent seasons will stand us in good stead for the challenge that we face."
“There’s a great spirit amongst the lads. In fact, I’ve not played with a closer-knit group of lads since I have been at the club and we’ve not only gelled well on the pitch, but we’re all great friends off-the-pitch too, which is so important. The morale is high and we desperately want to keep building on the momentum for the big games that lie ahead."
“Another important factor is the backing that we have received from the supporters. It’s hugely appreciated by every one of us and, I know it’s a bit of a cliché, but the fans really are our 12th man and have played their part in the success that we’ve had so far this season. I can only encourage you all to keep coming along and supporting the team. Also, why not bring your family and friends and spread the word throughout the local community because the more fans we get here, the more it drives us on. To consistently have crowds of over 200 at this level really is superb and we cannot thank you enough. By everyone working together we can achieve our objectives and get this club up to the next level."
“From a personal point of view, I want to stay fit now and be available for the rest of the season. I’ve been doing a lot of strength and conditioning work on my groin away from the club so that it gives me the best chance of staying fit and will allow me to perform at my best level to help the team.”
Come and show your support on Saturday as we head to Clanfield 85. The game will take place at Radcot Road, Main Street, Clanfield OX18 2ST with a 3.00pm kick-off.
