These are unprecedented times and in a bid to keep the Malvern Town players ticking over during the latest lockdown, Sports Therapist, Laura Whitehead, alongside Strength & Conditioning Coach, Bruce McLaren, have utilised their expertise to devise a fitness programme.
“We have the players doing 2.5k runs with a five-minute walk in between and then sprint intervals during the 5ks, which take place on a Saturday to replace the game,” explained Laura (pictured). “It is all tracked on Strava so we have the data."
“Tuesday training consists of home-based fitness sessions of high intensity exercises, with some tailored to meet specific needs, whilst on Thursday evenings all of the players and coaches are invited to a Zoom call led by myself where I share a yoga video for us all to follow together."
“This is also a good way of getting everyone together, interacting and keeping the banter going even though we can’t see each other in person at the moment."
"The lads have responded really well to it so far; they recognise the need to be ready so that they can hit the ground running and pick up from where we left off when the action is able to return."
“I’d also like to thank Bruce [McLaren] for his help with this. He has been heavily involved in the planning of the sessions and his input has been much appreciated by us all.”
