Marlborough Town 2 Shrivenham Development 9 - 15 July

An over strength Development side travelled to Beversbrook Sports Facility on Saturday to take on Wiltshire Senior League, Marlborough Town in another useful exercise as preparations continue ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

With the First XI having their game against Calne Town cancelled and the Development side having had a game two days earlier, Gareth Davies took the opportunity to give a number of his players some much needed practice, along with a number of trialists and Development players.

The game was a little over 4-minutes old when one of the trialists managed to give Shrivvy the lead with a great strike to catch the bosses eye, before Jamie Prictor made it two with 12-minutes gone.

With such a bright start, it was full credit to the opposition who immediately snatched one back to reduce the deficit by half following a low strike and it looked like a goal-fest was on the cards.

That theory was further enforced when Ryan Stanners rounded the keeper on 16-minutes after he rounded the keeper to make it 3-1 before Antonio Gerrish got himself on the scoresheet two minutes later courtesy of a side-footed finish.

There was brief respite for a little over ten minutes before Stanners grabbed his second with 27-minutes gone.

Another ten-minute gap then saw Josh Morse making it 6-1 with a tidy finish before Marlborough grabbed their second two minutes later and with three minutes left before the interval, Tom Ballard made it 7 with a simple tap-in.

The interval saw mass wholesale changes which didn’t include Stanners – and he grabbed his hat-trick 69-minutes and he went one better on 90-minutes when he scored again with a tap-in to make it 9-2 on the day.
