Westfields’ final pre-season friendly against local rivals Malvern Town took place last night and ended in an entertaining 2-2 draw.
This competitive game ended 2-2 to set up both teams nicely for their uhslport Hellenic League programme which kicks off this Saturday.
Westfields led comfortably at the break 2-0 but in the second half Malvern Town came back strongly to equalise in an end-to-end hard fought and most competitive pre-season friendly.
Malvern team manager Dean Whittal-Williams, a former Westfields favourite, included a number of former Westfields players including Ben Miller, James Febery and Jay Saunston in their line-up and this added extra spice to the game which was well contested in a first-half in which Westfields took a lead mid-way through the half after a fine flowing movement which ended with Ben Hayes laying on a square ball to Craig Jones who rifled home a low shot into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.
Westfields then increased their lead shortly before half time when Richard Greaves pounced on an opportunity to put Westfields 2 up at the break.
After the interval Westfields made several changes to their line-up and saw Malvern take advantage and hit back with a goal from Harry Clark and then late in the game they drew level when former Westfields striker Ben Miller equalised to send the sides in at 2-2.
Westfields then had a great opportunity right at the end when Dan Stoneman made a dazzling run down the right, cut in and crossed to the far post where Kane Kahaki had slid in only to see his fine effort go over the bar.
